During his address to the Roman Curia for the exchange of Christmas greetings on 21 December, Francis briefly left the text of his speech to refer to a painting by Father Marko Rupnik that he has in his studio.
He had already referred to it on two other occasions, notably in 2023 when he recorded a short video message for the XVI Mariological Congress "The Mariology of Pope Francis" in Aparecida, Brazil.
On 21 December, Francis said: "There is a picture that I have in my study that represents precisely the Synkatabasis [= the descent of Christ into the world]. The Virgin is there with her hands like a small ladder, and the Child is going down the ladder. The Child holds the Law in one hand and clings to his mother with the other so that he does not fall. This is the role of the Virgin: to carry the Child and to leave him. And this is what she does in our hearts."

A Novus Ordo pastor (a Monsignor) in a homily last month referred to “Christ of Saint John of the Cross”, a painting by Salvador DalĂ made in 1951.
He has eight huge televisions mounted in the rafters of his church and bemoaned the fact that he didn’t think to have the painting digitally displayed on the televisions for the benefit of the assembled lay faithful.
No mention of the fact that Dali together with basically all Surrealists were all Godless libertines.
This Guy called him on it after mass.
