Praying for the Media
National Day of Prayer website ^

Posted on 11/21/2024 11:51:26 AM PST by CondoleezzaProtege

The media is unquestionably one of the most powerful and influential voices in our culture. Journalism used to be a simple matter of reporting the facts and, where there was controversy, presenting both sides of the story. Unfortunately, that is no longer the case. From the top national networks to local newspapers, we are faced with the challenge of sorting through commentary and conjecture in order to get to the truth.

We encourage you to make our nation’s journalists a subject of prayer. Ask the Lord to provide the television, radio and print mediums with staff members and executives who are committed to accuracy and integrity.

We must also remember to intercede on behalf of the actors, musicians and athletes our young people seek to emulate. Pray that more of Hollywood’s celebrities will be worthy of our respect and admiration. And as you watch your favorite sport, ask the Lord to strengthen and embolden any Christians on the team or coaching staff. Nothing is too difficult for God and though the industry often seems unprincipled, we know the Lord is able to use the media to accomplish His purposes.

Social media counts as media. Needs prayer to not be in bad hands. And for free speech to be protected at all costs.

Individuals like Elon Musk need prayers of protection.

I had an enjoyable 31 year career in journalism (advertising). We were required to back up our claims with data - driven facts. News editorial stories were more opinion driven and finally fell into the rabbit hole of fantasyland.

This writer is firmly planted in some year prior to 2016. Trust in the legacy media has evaporated like a snowcone in Houston in August. Comcast is trying to peddle MSNBC; Tucker Carlson, Joe Rogan, Alex Jones, and Megyn Kelly routinely get audiences multiples of any of the leftist blogs or the legacy media.

I’ve been watching ABC News, NBC News, and CBS News since the 1970s. There was never a “golden era” when these “news” organizations presented both sides of the issue or presented all the facts of a story. It was always “Republicans bad, Democrats good-“. I also remember how CNN covered the 1992 election. They bashed George Bush relentlessly, and ignored all the allegations about Clinton. Same thing with the WaPo, the NYT, PBS, and NPR.

I agree. At least in the late 20th Century, the mainstream media put on a pretense of being impartial. One of the first conservative books I read was “The Left Leaning Antenna” written around 1974 that documented the liberal bias in broadcast news. One major element in liberal dominance occurred when wealthy liberal investors or the heirs to the founding families acquired conservative newspaper chains like the McCormick, Chandler, and Scripps-Howard interests. In the 1930s, the Chicago Tribune and the Los Angeles Times were conservative, opposing the New Deal.
