After all tried am going into hospital next week (Tuesday at 11:) for a procedure I really would rather not have done......it’s a risky surgical prognostic test.
I’ve already had two Cat scans and a Pet Scan but these were unsuccessful in revealing what the problem is so they now want to go deeper.
I’d appreciate folks now pray about this as it’s the first medical procedure I’ve ever been anxious about in my lifetime...My son will be taking me for this.
It generally takes a lot for me to get unnerved so I’m surprised I’m uncomfortable about it. The decision to go ahead with it was difficult weighing pros and cons for several days.... Yet I believe it’s the right decision to go ahead.
May the Lord move who He will to pray for me.

UPDATE (11/11/24)
First time back in my basement office since June. It is been a long slog. The Whipple itself was fine, but a "complication" in the form of a nicked renal artery spoiled an otherwise well executed Whipple.
I bled significant amount of blood into my abdomen before a CT scan spotted the origin of the bleed and "interventional radiology" performed an embolization of the "leak". 10 transfusions followed to get enough blood circulating to keep me alive. The pools of blood in my abdomen required drains for a period of months and pressure from the blood hampered the Whipple recovery.
In the midst of all that, I contracted an MRSA pneumonia and required weeks of IV vancomycin to clear it. I'm finally building back muscle lost to atrophy from being in a hospital bed too long.
I'm still tethered to a naso-jejunal feeding tube supplying 1800 calories per day. I eat regular food now that it can pass from stomach to jejunum. The Whipple really didn't get to "functional" until mid-August when the first food finally passed though. I'm thankful to be approaching "normal" again. Planning to resume full time employment on Nov 25th.

UPDATE (11/13/24)
I have been hospitalized twice in the past two months.
The CAT scan and MRI did not show any signs of a stroke, for which I give God PRAISE!
I did develop a swallowing problem. A scope endoscopy found a hiatial hernia and a “ schatzki ring”. The doctor was able to stretch the ring , helping me once again to swallow. Another PRAISE.
I have a third appointment with a ENT specialist on Nov 20th and would like prayer for the doctor to be able to find the root cause.

My youngest daughter is trying to buy a house. She’s putting in offers but keeps getting outbid. And she’s going over asking price, too. She’s in a very good position financially, it’s just that the market is very hot.

They found some issues.. a stomach ulcer is being biopsied and multiple polyps are also.
I will know more in mid Nov.

Prayers for my childhood friend and his family. He is on hospice and dying of stomach cancer. His body is still strong but he is hallucinating and combative. I would appreciate some prayer.
Am having difficulties in a lot of situations in my life. One of them has to do with employment. Another, my health.
I guess I'm also feeling fear for this country. I majored in history in college, have a degree in that. I've never heard of this nation being in as big a trouble as it is now. It's enough to make me wonder why did I ever trouble myself to want to have children in the first place (I don't have children but I certainly want them to have a better life than I have).
So much on my mind that won't leave me alone. But, we are called to bring our needs before the throne, with faith in God. I've prayed before, for others and myself. Maybe it won't hurt to ask a few others to pray also.

Son #1, who is only 52, will be receiving his second cardiac stent in December.
Son #4 is dealing with debilitating rheumatoid arthritis, and in December he will undergo radiofrequency ablation in hopes of alleviating some of his back pain.
While praying for their physical difficulties, please also pray that they will return to the Faith.

1) My 82-year-old pastor friend is doing better after a terrible fall several months ago - hopes to get his neck brace off in 2 weeks - he’s been telling me this for about 4 weeks now.
2) My 93-year-old pastor is better still needs prayers.
3) My friend with leukemia passed away in August, 2024 - his son and daughter have to sell his house and even his classic Corvette which was once featured on a magazine car cover 40+ years ago - custom body, not a kit - I think from around 1980 - I saw it - all dusty inside his garage - I hate it that I can no longer stop by his house and see him - I’d even hit the Aldi’s by his house if I had cash.
4) Another friend passed away in June (an infection after an insect bite). I just heard a couple of nights ago that his widow is suffering from dementia now - I didn’t really know her so I heard about this from someone else. Prayers are no doubt it order there as well.

PRAY that President Trump and Tucker Carlson physically VISIT western North Carolina (Chimney Rock, Burnsville< and the area around that hospital in Erwin where those women at Impact Plastics died)...repairing that kind of destruction is right in President Trump’s wheelhouse, but he needs to SEE it...not just Asheville.
I drove down the interstate for the first time since it was reopened by Impact Plastics...the piles of debris are a real horror show, but it will be swept under the rug.

The fire danger is over. Snow and rain had saved the day.
But for a time, we were on notice to prepare to evacuate. And the areas just outside town—north, west, south—had evacuated.
No loss of life. A couple homes burned down. Hillbilly Hotshots (ranchers with tanks of water and hose) had saved many structures which were difficult for fire fighters to reach.
Thank you for your prayers.
October—Wyoming was on fire! November, we voted over 70% for Trump.

I am asking for prayers for my baby brother Mike. Our hometown is Newport Tn and the floods have caused massive problems. In the midst of this my brother has entered the hospital with renal failure and sepsis and things are touch and go. The hospital is having to truck in water to operate in this crisis. There are a lot of people suffering during this time so while praying for them I ask you to remember my brother and family as well. Thanks for all you do, Freerepublic is still the best place to be.

I returned to the scene of where my house USED to be yesterday...OMG. They were burning huge piles of debris (my home and my possessions) on and next to the closed interstate.
I ran into a woman who had served in the Middle East...she said the scene looked WORSE than Beirut. It was surreal. Prayer is certainly needed…
My wife is Type-1 diabetic, her insulin pump was swept away, and it was a NIGHTWARE getting her back ‘online’, as we had lost her settings, and her endo is in ASHEVILLE, with no way to communicate with her. Fortunately, we were able to locate a diabetes counselor who was an expert in working with brand of pump. (God is wonderful.) This whole situation is why I am up at 4:20 posting on FR.
Governor Lee, Senator Blackburn, and Congresswoman Harshbarger were doing a press conference just a few yards from where my home used to be...the usual political blather that the media types just drool over. Useless.
Best assets for victims are good old CASH (so individuals can make the decision as to what they need...VISA gift cards and such...avoid company-specific gift cards, keep financial support as liquid as possible.) Best charity is probably Samaritan’s Purse. Dr. Graham’s homebase of Boone, NC was trashed. Red Cross and other high-profile charities are generally t*ts on a boar. FEMA?
Don’t make me laugh. NO sign of our black-clad saviors. Will reply to all...just be patient, as I am being yanked in a thousand different directions, but I have PLENTY of stories. :-) IMO, this was a message/judgement/warning from God Almighty...He is trying to get our attention. More later.

Please continue praying for my adopted, special needs daughter, age 33, who lives with me. She is on disability but also tries to work through Regional Center for Disabilities.
Her “employer” is less than fair. She has only worked 2 days in two months! She does kitchen work in a restaurant. Pray specifically for GOD’S leading if that is to mean a new job.
One PRAISE is that she is developing spiritually through this all!! I am also concerned for her future if and when the Lord takes me home to be with Him.

It’s been a terrible year. If it’s not a curse, it’s God Himself trying to tell me something ;)
As for the latest, the 3 tendons on the back of my hand that were cut are healing somewhat. Since June 11 I haven’t been able to use that, my right hand, for very much at all. No grip, no strength. Still swollen. Surgery just about 2 months ago now, I’m getting terrifically impatient and despondent over not being able to do my usual things.
As for the emergency hernia that happened - what? 5 days after hand surgery? - I had a spigelian hernia, no idea how or when but all of the sudden it was THERE. From 0 to 160 in 10 minutes. Wow, the pain.
So, the wonderful surgeon came in and opened me like a can of sardines at 3 AM on a Sunday morning, and after an initial 2 weeks of not doing very well, THAT is healing magnificently. The scar is about 8-10 inches but most of the bruising is gone. I still can’t actually look at it.
Before we knew what it was and before the morphine and fentanyl kicked in, I asked Dahoser to not only post for prayers on FR but I made him baptize me, too. Some kind of glacier water right outta the machine - I hope God doesn’t mind.
(now, although I do profess to be a born again evangelical I have yet to be properly baptized. Just haven’t found a church that does living, running water baptisms and I never thought the fish tank kind were very hygienic or proper).
And so that’s it for my surgical updates. I am surely better than I deserve but I wish I was a bit better than that.
Aside from all that, Dahoser is still only working a very cheap contract and we need a full time job with health insurance. It’s good to have the paycheck from the contract but that will be ending soon and we may end up living in our cars. At least we have 2 of them :)
Oy. Can you tell I haven’t been out of the house much in 3 months?? Dang I need some real life people, too.

Good evening Freepers.
I wanted to share a few prayer requests with you. I don't normally post things like this for me as I try to keep some aspects of my life close to the chest, but I wanted to share these as they continue to be things that I am dealing with, some of them for quite some time.
First off, Long Covid. As many of you know, I retired from my job in Apr 23 because of Long Covid. I was infected with Covid 19 in February 2022, but in Nov 22 I developed Long Covid. I initially recovered from Covid and was on my way to what I thought was a full recovery when Long Covid hit me, and hard. Nov 2022 to Apr 2023 were very difficult months, and Long Covid has stayed with me since then, and although it's not quite as bad as it was, I'm still disabled. What I got hit with was a combination of chronic fatigue, extreme nausea, insomnia and dizziness/confusion. While the fatigue and nausea are not as bad, I still suffer with all of those symptoms. It's only by pacing myself, resting and eating very bland foods that I am able to get by. And that leads me to my next request.
Second, Insomnia. That aspect of my condition has been extremely rough. From Nov 22 to Apr 23 I was taking a fist full of drugs in order to sleep. I did not put in a full day’s work that entire timeframe because of the Long Covid, and not being to get a good night’s rest made things worse. Even though I was taking those drugs my days were still hard to get through. It’s a good thing I had over 400 hours of sick leave. It came in very handy.
When I finally retired I tried to get myself off those drugs but it proved very difficult. I was basically addicted to them by that point and trying to go “cold turkey” was not a good idea. It wasn't until late December that I finally hit upon a game plan to get rid of the sleep meds but it's taking this long to play out.
With the assistance of a VA counselor helping me with my insomnia, I was able to reduce my intake over the months until, just this week, I finally stopped taking the sleep drug, Temazepam/Restoril, altogether. When I started taking that medication, I was taking 30 MG capsules. I was able to reduce that to 22.5 MG by Nov/Dec 23, then to 15 MG in Jan 24, then 7.5 MG since March. Just a couple of days ago I stopped taking it altogether. But it wasn't without assistance from the VA counselor helping me modifying my sleep patterns that I was able to do so. He’s also had me keep a diary to chronicle the entire process. HOWEVER, I now have to give my body time to adjust and hopefully get my sleeping pattern on track again. With each reduction in medication it normally takes about two months to re-regulate my sleep.
Third, Retirement. Since I retired I've been trying to get various aspects of my retirement in order, but there have been bumps along the way.
OPM had to adjust my retirement because they didn't calculate it correctly when retired in Apr 23. It took about two months but it finally got fixed. However, I was short changed in that my retirement pay is $200 less than I was quoted before I retired. The GRB website the government uses was not accurate in how it calculated my retirement. I come to find out that I did not have 30 years of total government service, but instead had 26 years and 8 months. They neglected to tell me that almost 4 years of temporary employment didn't count towards my time. GRRRRRRRR.
Social Security and VA disabilities were applied for.
SS denied my in February of this year, after a wait of over 6 months, and I hired a SS disability lawyer to appeal my case. It's ongoing.
The VA is another matter entirely, and honestly, I am extremely angry at the VA because they continue to deny appeals to get my disability claims approved. For instance, even though they now admit that military service caused hearing loss and tinnitus, they won't overturn their previous denial from 2006. The lawyers I hired to file the appeals have received three denials since summer last year. So in addition to being denied in 2006 and 2011, that's now five total denials on that one condition alone. And there are others.
The lawyers are trying to figure out what to do next, but I know what I want to do, and that is fire off a letter to the VA expressing my anger. The department in the VA that deals with disability claims no longer works for the veteran. They actively work against them, and I really want to express my outrage to them.
Retirement location. I really need to move from where I am. The housing I’m in is old military housing and is not in good shape. I would like to move to better housing but of course housing, whether one rents or owns, is priced through the roof. If either, or both, of the disability claims get approved I'll bring in more funds, but I could be waiting for several months, if not a few years, for that to happen. I am on a waiting list for senior apartments in West Lafayette, IN. That location would be ideal because I would be real close to my daughter, but the waiting list is extremely long and it could be years before there is an open unit. I’ve been trying to locate other places to move to but it’s difficult to get out since Long Covid reduces my endurance, and Google Maps doesn’t do a good job in keeping its database updated.
Whew, that took longer than I anticipated to type out. I know that is a lot to take in, but those are the areas I really need prayer for. I appreciate the time you took to read all that. Thank you and God bless you all.

My niece has Gastroparesis, it’s a slow digestive disorder, I went through the same thing years ago. It is totally diet-controlled. The 1 med is useless. Supplements, eat simple, no hulls, peels, or seeds.
I’ve already told her what to do, she just has to be patient and start slow. Doctors sent her home on a liquid diet. Down to 95 lbs. I hit 108.
The coatings on fruits are making people sick. And you can’t wash them off, Gates crap. Apeel or Peelz. Handle with surgery gloves.
