Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem (10/25/24)[Prayer]

Names and Titles of God the Holy Spirit
(Spirit of Righteousness) John 16:8-11

8 And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:

9 Of sin, because they believe not on me;

10 Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more;

11 Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Oh LORD, Our God,
How Excellent,
How Glorious,
How Majestic,
Is Your Name Over All The Earth!
The Earth is Yours,
The Heavens,
And the Vast Expanses of Space,
You Created it All,
And it is All Under Your Control.

Abba Father!
How Deep is This Thirst for You within me!
How I Long For the Deep Fellowship of The Soul,
that is like the Refreshment of Sparkling Waterfalls,
And Precious Life-Giving Oasis
in The Bleak and Parched Desert!

Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.

Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.

This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.

God Bless America.

John's Gospel takes a lot of time quoting Jesus's Teachings and Prayers. The Seventeenth Chapter is remarkable, as it is a long, intimate prayer between Jesus and His Father in Heaven. I remember reading it for the first time and being stunned by how profound it was.

The Context of this mighty prayer is, like all Scripture, very important. Jesus had had a room prepared for Him and His Disciples to celebrate the Passover with the Traditional Seder. For this to take place, the room had to be thoroughly cleaned and free of any left-over bread or bakery products that contained yeast or leavening. Since there were going to be 13 people at the table, special arrangements probably had to be made.

As the Disciples filed in from the street, their Master was there, stripped to the waist and holding a towel, like a servant. He instructed the Disciples to sit down and then Jesus proceeded to wash their feet, one at a time. This was normally a job for the lowliest servant in the household. Peter was especially disturbed by this, and said so. Jesus quickly set Peter straight, and the Seder continued.

Now, even modern-day Seders are long, with Blessings, Prayers, Stories, Songs, and Rituals, but they were probably even longer back then. Sitting at the table together was the perfect opportunity for Jesus to share some very important teachings, and the very act of blessing and breaking bread became the Christian Communion. Most depictions of The Last Supper portray that very Moment in what would have been a four hour ceremony.

But, as John's Gospel shows us, a lot more happened that night around the Table.

We see in Today's Scripture Passage, that Jesus Promised the Coming of the Holy Spirit. He takes the time to talk about the Character and Purpose of The Holy Spirit, and uses the words "Conviction", "Righteousness", and "Judgment".

But wait...didn't Jesus just call The Holy Spirit "The Comforter"? Isn't He the Paraclete, the Helper, the Friend and Companion? What's all this talk about "conviction" and "judgment"?

Think of what you would want for a Best Friend and Advisor. Do you want someone who is a "Yes-Man", who flatters and appeases and lies to you to gain your favor? Or do you want a Faithful Friend who tells you the Truth, even if it hurts at the time?

A True Friend is One Who will guide you into Truth, Righteousness, and Peace. Without Conviction and Repentance, this can't take place in your life.

A teacher once told me how to tell the difference between the liberating Conviction of the Holy Spirit, and plain old GUILT. (Just to be clear, these words are not from the Bible, but from a Believer who has done a lot of Bible reading.)

If the thing you are feeling brings shame, self-hatred and hopelessness, if there's no apparent solution, and if it locks you into a cycle of negativity, it's GUILT.

If, however, the feeling brings remorse, repentance, and leads to Salvation and Healing, that's called "Conviction" and is the Holy Spirit working in your life.

Guilt cripples the Soul, while Conviction Liberates it.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

For whatever is hidden is meant to be disclosed, and whatever is concealed is meant to be brought out into the open. (Mark 4:22)

Psalm 106 (16-27)

16 They were jealous of Moses in the camp,
and of Aaron, the holy one of the Lord.
17 The earth opened and swallowed up Dathan,
and covered the faction of Abiram.
18 Fire also broke out in their company;
the flame burned up the wicked.

19 They made a calf at Horeb
and worshipped a cast image.
20 They exchanged the glory of God*
for the image of an ox that eats grass.
21 They forgot God, their Saviour,
who had done great things in Egypt,
22 wondrous works in the land of Ham,
and awesome deeds by the Red Sea.*
23 Therefore he said he would destroy them—
had not Moses, his chosen one,
stood in the breach before him,
to turn away his wrath from destroying them.

24 Then they despised the pleasant land,
having no faith in his promise.
25 They grumbled in their tents,
and did not obey the voice of the Lord.
26 Therefore he raised his hand and swore to them
that he would make them fall in the wilderness,
27 and would disperse* their descendants among the nations,
scattering them over the lands.
