because guns dont kill people, people use guns to kill people. And if there were no guns, they would simply use something else to kill them.

Liberals don’t have brains to think things through.

“When I go to America, it always astonishes me that the same people are vitriolically opposed to abortion murdering innocent babies in the womb and vitriolically in favor of everybody carrying guns and being prepared to shoot people criminals at any time.

There, fixed it!

Hugely respected in Christian theology as a modern apologist. Disappointed.

Speaking of education ...In 1980 the US literacy rate was 96% . It is now 79% a bound to get lower .

Yep - both of those views are pro-life of innocent people. Self defense. (Self-defense includes defense of others in your proximity that are there legally and not doing crimes and are being threatened with great harm.)

And our Second Amendment rights are a natural right from God, recognized as such by the Founding Fathers.

I’ve done a few of those small group books by N.T. Wright. Oh well. I will cut other Christians (and anyone else) some slack on their viewpoints on guns - as long as they don’t infringe on my rights. But Christians that support abortion? No. Although I’m sure that there are some in my congregation that do support it. I know the pastors don’t.

Anyone here heard of this guy?

A well-known name in New Testament scholarship, and an Anglican bishop, drifts Left.

On the one hand, you’d have thought if they’re so concerned about preserving human life, even in embryo and in vitro, etc., then why are they not concerned about preserving human life when it comes to, say, a school shooting by somebody who’s been able to walk into a store, even though mentally disturbed, and buy a weapon-grade automatic rifle?

On the one hand, you have a man criticizing an uneducated electorate, who accept accept “over-simplified” arguments, yet who avoids the simple fact that abortion is murder, regardless of why pro-life persons oppose it, while he engages in an “over-simplified” argument, as if gun laws actually allow mentally disturbed persons to purchase arms, which is akin to charging that US laws allow drunk persons to drive. Laws can be faulted as not being strict enough, but to charge that the law allows mentally disturbed, and buy a weapon-grade automatic rifle is n an “over-simplified” argument.

Yet, as even Snopes states, " it was (and remains to this day) already illegal to sell guns to anyone "who has been adjudicated as a mental defective or who has been committed to a mental institution" per Title 18 section 922(g) of the United States Code. Adjudicated as mental defective", the Obama administration argued, is further clarified in an Alcohol, Tobacco Products and Firearms regulation (Title 27 U.S.C. section 478.11) to be:

(a) A determination by a court, board, commission, or other lawful authority that a person, as a result of marked subnormal intelligence, or mental illness, incompetency, condition, or disease:

(1) Is a danger to himself or to others; or

(2) Lacks the mental capacity to contract or manage his own affairs.

(b) The term shall include—

(1) A finding of insanity by a court in a criminal case; and

(2) Those persons found incompetent to stand trial or found not guilty by reason of lack of mental responsibility pursuant to articles 50a and 72b of the Uniform Code of Military Justice, 10 U.S.C. 850a, 876b.

Under the Obama rule, information from the Social Security Administration regarding mental disability benefits would be added to the National Instant Criminal Background Check database for use in firearm background checks.

The Obama rule, a response to the 2012 Sandy Hook Massacre, had been praised by gun control advocates, but opposed by gun rights groups, disability advocacy groups, and civil liberty groups. - https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/congress-gun-legal-mental/

I like N.T. Wright. I have read several of his books, though I don't always agree with his theological opinions.

That said, why would we expect a theologian (a British theologian, at that) to understand why citizens might need to resort to violence to defend their country from a dangerous government?

Typically, the kinds of men that go into theology are soft men. They haven't even defended their own churches from the LGBTQ movement. We would be naive to think they would understand the need for citizens to own guns.

‘Which, then, you get two of the ideologies of our time: Aphrodite, the goddess of erotic love, Mars, the god of violence and war, who are kind of squabbling with each other.

Is this about male violence?”

I don’t see Jesus or God or the Bible or the Holy Spirit mentioned by this, so-called, “Christian”
