[Catholic Caucus] Cardinal Zen publishes book on building Church without ‘synodal process’

Cardinal Joseph Zen Ze-kiun published a book on August 20 providing advice and practical wisdom for how to live an authentically Catholic life amid the contention brought by the Synod on Synodality.

Cardinal Zen, who has previously criticized the Synod, focuses on ways to daily live out the Catholic faith in his book, “Catholic and Apostolic: From the Church of the Apostles to the ‘Synodal’ Church.” One of his former criticisms of the Synod was that it is at the universal level with no clear goal, Catholic News Agency reported in February.

According to Sophia Institute Press, the book’s publisher, the book is “collected from [Cardinal Zen’s] homilies, pastoral letters, and addresses” and “reveals Gospel meaning and Sacred Tradition to help you remain steadfast in the true Faith and enliven your personal relationship with our Lord.”

Sophia Institute Press noted that the Church is in a period of suffering and crisis, adding that the Synod on Synodality has sparked “confusion and discord” among faithful Catholics.

Cardinal Zen’s book reportedly addresses the “dangers” of the Synod, “surefire ways to ‘test the spirit’ and discern the truth,” as well as ways to receive God’s grace, love and worship Him, and “grow in confidence over fear.”

“These wise teachings will safeguard you and provide the spiritual medicine and ‘rich nutrition’ you need for fruitful daily living,” Sophia Institute Press stated. “Cardinal Zen reveals how to transmit the Faith with vitality and love to every generation — even from your own home.”
