Christians have failed to articulate a credible explanation of how modern science and a Biblical world view can be reconciled. In a modern, secular society, this failure has a corrosive effect because modern science and technology are grounded in reason and have dramatically improved human life. This is why modern culture is so potent in marginalizing Christianity.

It’s cyclical. Religious awakenings come and go.

The Elder Brethren lobotomized us with Samuel Untermeyer’s, Scofield Study Bible, but just to make it stick, they pushed the Scopes Monkey Trial to make sure Evangelicals self isolated from sociey.

My observation is, among Evangelical Protestants, they tend to spend A LOT of time telling the congregation they are 'saved by faith and not works,' but fail to tell congregants they need to follow the 'moral law,' not for salvation, but (in the words of Paul), 'live a life worthy of the calling you have received' ... or as James says, 'Faith without works is dead.' ...

I was one of them for many years ...

Christians have failed to articulate a credible explanation of how modern science and a Biblical world view can be reconciled.

John Locke does exactly this, in his book ‘The Reasonableness of Christianity’ … unfortunately, Jonathan Edwards read it and called him a heretic, so it never took hold like other books of the era. Here’s a link to Amazon readers who reviewed the book, to get a flavor of his writing:

They say God’s moral law only applies to the unsaved. Yeah, imagine that.

I should add, there’s a few doctrines I disagree with Locke, but he has made me rethink ‘some doctrines such as ‘original sin’ for example. Unlike Luther, he doesn’t believe babies are born as sinners;

I would say, the church teaches disciplines (prayer, bible reading, fellowship) as the metrics one uses to measure their spirituality; the disciplines should be taught as the MEANs to live a life worthy of their calling, where the output should be, the fruit of the spirit - coming from one who spent decades on the wrong above mentioned tread mill.

I would hardly call the situation in America today and *improvement*.

Modern culture is godless and it has nothing to do with science and tech. The marginalizing of Christianity is due to the efforts of those who hate it, who want no moral constraints.

Modern science is NOT grounded in reason. It's grounded in ideology. The global warming scam, the who pandemic scam, etc, and what's been revealed about *peer review* in the last few years proves that. Tow the party line or lose funding.

That is NOT reason.

And improvements in tech don't create a morally superior society.

”… saved by faith and not works …”

We are saved by faith in Christ alone. But that does not mean that we can forget about “works”. And that is a good thing because no matter how hard we work to be good enough to deserve God, we fall short. That is why we so desperately need “grace” and is why Christ died for us as our sacrificial lamb.

But you are right that “faith without works is dead”. Because if we love God and sincerely believe in Christ’s amazing sacrifice, then we will want to do good works not only to please Him, but to THANK Him everyday for His gift of grace.
