Evangelical “Political Savior,” JD Vance Argues Like a Leftist in Support of the Abortion Pill

From Rod Dreher to Eric Metaxas, Tony Perkins, and Charlie Kirk, J.D. Vance has amassed quite the following among those who see him as the new face of “religious populism.” It’s an interesting accolade for someone whose claim to fame is being a champion of conservativism while simultaneously endorsing the very measures that undermine them.

In a recent interview with NBC, Vance endorses the abortion pill mifepristone, which reveals a curious contradiction—one that his evangelical supporters seem more than willing to overlook in their quest for a political savior.

Arguing like a leftist, Vance offers not just his support for the abortion pill, but an alternative to anti-abortion legislation altogether. Similar to the way leftists offer social justice as a means to ending abortion, Vance argues that instead of pushing for anti-abortion legislation, we should instead “make it easier and more affordable for young women and parents to have families” by lowering housing costs and eliminating “those surprise medical bills that so many families see after they have a baby.”

This effectively makes unborn children hostages to social policy, whether it be from the right or the left. It sends the message that if one wants to save the lives of unborn children, then support these various social justice legislations rather than make the systematic murder of these children legal.

Imagine making arguments like this around the lives of three-year-olds, or teenagers, or grandparents. Imagine believing that the Supreme Court had the authority to grant the right to kill one of these other classes of people and the federal government had no duty to step in. Imagine arguing that it is a “states’ rights” issue while states are systematically thumbing their nose at the Constitutionally-protected God-given right to life.

JD Vance is no evangelical hero—he’s just another pragmatist with no real conviction in the lives of fellow Image-bearers.

Vance and Trump should say that all things abortion related are now states’ issues. Anyone trying to make federal elections about abortion is lying to you.

An unborn baby is not a “kite”.

No fed funding of abortion or abortion providers like Planned Parenthood.

Sorry but this article is like an author in search of an argument not a solution. When we are at the stage of attacking someone who wants to make it easier for families and young women to keep their babies rather than aborting we have lost our way.

We live in a real world not in a vacuum populated by theories. When you want to promote something you give incentives. The left proves this by giving all the wrong incentives. The Country has lost it’s way and part of finding it’s way back is embracing morality and stacking the cards for the family and meritocracy.
If some one is going to attack one of the few VP candidates standing I’d prefer they not just riding their hobbyhorse but provide pertinent cogent reasoning.

Oh, They are still federalizing it. I heard all these people talking about how Biden promised to reinstate Roe v. Wade by Congress.

That is the key—it is a state issue, federal government needs to stop funding, facilitating it, and allowing it at federal facilities and properties. Beyond that, while we can oppose it individually and a society, it is now a state issue for citizens of each state to decide.

Maybe Vance is destroying himself, by supporting this abortion drug?
Saying this issue is a Federal issue now, is quite different from coming out and outright SUPPORTING an abortion drug.
Wouldn’t be the first time someone claims to be something, they aren’t.
Vance is starting to make the hair on the back of my neck stand up. B

Being duped by politicians is getting old!

My hope is Vance stays right where he is in Ohio.
Trump has other choices for VP.

I wanted him to be the VP until he revealed that he does not believe in the sanctity of human life.

Extremists destroy everything they pretend to fight for.
Overturning Rove v Wade was major and placed oversight back to the states where it belongs. Campaign in your state for the legal position you would like. Criminalizing all abortions for all American women is the other face of Roe v Wade and is just as wrong and is not in force in any Nation on earth.
Live your own conscience. Argue for your beliefs but do not pretend your passion gives you a right to be the arbiter.

Mifepristone, when used together with another medicine called misoprostol, is used to end a pregnancy through ten weeks gestation (70 days or less since the first day of the last menstrual period). I would rather that abortions be even more limited but I can only decide for myself. Each state has the option of a more severe limitation and a decision about the balance between fetal & maternal rights.

I agree.

The states are independent sovereigns for a reason.

The values of TX are not the same as CA and don’t have to be.

What a surprise. I think that might shoot down his chance for VP.

In a recent interview with NBC, Vance endorses the abortion pill mifepristone...

That's not necessarily true, if you watch the interview. Vance says it should be a state issue, and if California wants to kill their children through abortion drugs, that's on them. Such an opinion is far from an "endorsement" of mifepristone.
