From the transcripts:

"...Mary was the mother of Jesus describing her pregnancy the scriptures

say that she was with a child Matthew 1:18 soon after conceiving she went to

her relative Elizabeth then there was a celebration that the Messiah had just been conceived

not only that but Elizabeth also referred to Mary as the mother of my Lord Luke 1:43

while Jesus had not yet been born Mary became a mother not at the birth of her

first child but at his conception Elizabeth was pregnant with John who

would also become a prophet and when the pregnant Mary visited her the baby leaped into her womb Luke

this passage is the Greek word brefos which is used elsewhere in the scriptures for children outside the womb

Our pastor preached on this awhile ago. Christianity is the ONLY religion that says that life begins at conception. I found that amazing, and had to search the interwebs to see if he was correct.

He is. I forget the numbers, but Islam, depending on which “teacher” one follows it has a range from something like 20 to 40 days. Other religions (and teachers within the religions) have different periods of time as well for when the spirit/soul enters the embryo.

And even BEFORE we were conceived:

Psalm 139:16
Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.

“Christianity is the ONLY religion that says that life begins at conception.”

Yet, there are many on this forum who are adamant about wanting a Hindu in the White House — Gabbard, Ramaswamy, JD Vance’s wife.

I did a quick look at the Hindu view on the soul. Lots of variations, from conception to when the baby first kicks. Of course even taking the view that it is at conception it is still a “reincarnated” soul, so...

Oh - the Hindu belief is that the soul (from the previous person) is in the man’s semen. I’m not sure what happens to all of the souls in the sperm that don’t fertilize the woman’s egg.

“Of course even taking the view that it is at conception it is still a “reincarnated” soul...”

Right. And that concept of reincarnation is connected with the concept of karma. People fling around the word, “karma”, to equate with “justice” or “just desserts”. It’s specifically Eastern and refers to how a person returns, or already has returned, re-incarnated.

The Talmud forbids abortion. The Talmud is not Christian.

We just completed a study of Ishmael in Genesis. As you may recall, he was not the seed of promise, but was born of the slave from Egypt. The mother of Ismael caused so much heart-ache in the household Sarah finally threw her and her son out. She was on her way to Egypt when God found her and told her to go back and submit to the barren wife of Adam. God did this even as he knew “- “And he shall be as a wild ass among men; his hand shall be against every man, and every man’s hand against him; and he shall dwell over against all his brethren. (Gen. 16:12)” God knew the problems this child would bring to His people, and all He had to was nothing and the entire race would never exist. But God could not permit this unborn child to die at His (and Abram’s) and, so he saved Ismael from certain death - even as he was still in his mother’s womb.

This is God’s answer to ending a child’s life - even while it is still unborn. There is no reason - ever - to end the life of an unborn innocent child. But God went even further. He was again saved (protected) Ismael’s life as a teenager when he was once again thrown out of the house of Abram. Once again, they were on the way to Egypt when an angle of God found them and provided food for the journey. God does not take innocent life - - - and neither should we.

Turning to talmudic sources, the Mishnah asserts the following: “If a woman is having difficulty in giving birth [and her life is in danger], one cuts up the fetus within her womb and extracts it limb by limb, because her life takes precedence over that of the fetus. But if the greater part was already born, one may not touch it, for one may not set aside one person’s life for that of another.”

I have a better idea. Why don’t we wheel her into the OR and give her a C-section at the first sign of trouble instead of doing a third trimester ABORTION.

Interesting, Morgana. Do you have a citation for where this is found in the Talmud?

Or the Mishnah, I should have said.
