Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem
Dear Father in Heaven,
How Perfect You Are!
You Alone Are The One True God,
King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
Thank You For Being Our Righteousness,
For There Is Nothing We can Do Of Ourselves To Be Righteous Before You.
Thank You For Your Amazing Grace,
Your Discipline,
And Your Love.
May the Leaders of Our Own Beloved USA
Receive Wisdom from You
to do the Right Thing.
Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.
Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.
This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.
God Bless America.

The Name we are looking at today is "The Heir Of All Things". Before I start my own commentary, I would like to share another Scripture with you about "heirs":
(Matthew 17:24-27 New International Version)
The Temple Tax
24 After Jesus and his disciples arrived in Capernaum, the collectors of the two-drachma temple tax came to Peter and asked, “Doesn't your teacher pay the temple tax?”
25 “Yes, he does,” he replied.
When Peter came into the house, Jesus was the first to speak. “What do you think, Simon?” he asked. “From whom do the kings of the earth collect duty and taxes—from their own children or from others?”
26 “From others,” Peter answered.
“Then the children are exempt,” Jesus said to him. 27 “But so that we may not cause offense, go to the lake and throw out your line. Take the first fish you catch; open its mouth and you will find a four-drachma coin. Take it and give it to them for my tax and yours.”
In an episode in the seemingly endless reruns of "Law & Order/Criminal Intent, some criminals were illegally retrieving gold coins off a shipwreck within the Territorial Limit. When the first gold coin showed up, the character played by Vincent D'Nofrio said that the man who found it claims it was inside a fish that he caught. His pretty blond partner (Does the NYPD actually HAVE such people?) sarcastically replied,
"Where did he get THAT story? From the Bible?"
This little incident in the Gospel tells us something very important about being in the Family called by Grace into the Kingdom of God. We read about the Temple Tax way back in Exodus when the Israelites constructed the Tabernacle. It was a half-shekel no matter what one's social station, age, or rank. The rich paid the same as the poor, and God was no "respecter of persons".
In Jesus' time, the Temple itself was magnificent. It towered over the city and was known far and wide for its beauty. Yet, it had been built up to this impressive state by the madman Herod. The Priests, Levites, Musicians, and Attendants did their jobs, but were obsessed debating every little aspect of the Law (and all the other laws, rules, and regulations that were constantly being updated and enacted). They had the Orthopraxis (Right Practice) and even the Orthodoxy (Right Teaching), but their hearts weren't in it. I can't be too hard on them though, as they were fighting for the survival of their religion under the heel of the Roman Empire.
Jesus instructs Peter to do what he does for a living (fishing) to obtain the temple tax for both Himself and Peter. He explains in a parable that the heir is exempt from paying into the family, but they will indeed pay the Tax to fulfill righteousness. This is analogous to Jesus submitting to Baptism although He had nothing to repent of.
Orthodoxy is Good. Orthopraxis is Good. But, if the Heart is not in it, and if it is not done with Godly Love (Greek word "Agape") then, it is worth Nothing.
In this story, Jesus calls believers "heirs". While I am no expert on First Century Jewish Inheritance Laws, I have read that the Firstborn gets half of the Estate, and the rest divided according to the Will of the Testator. While that may not seem entirely fair to you and me, it was what it was.
The Author of Hebrews calls Jesus The Heir Of All Things". The rest of the Passage affirms this by saying that the Entire Universe is His, because it was created through Him.
But what about the "fish story", where Jesus calls His disciples "heirs"? I believe this is cleared up by this Passage from Galatians (St Paul):
And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.
Paul also confirms our "legacy" here in Romans:
And if we are children, then we are heirs: heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ--if indeed we suffer with Him, so that we may also be glorified with Him. (Romans 8:17)
So, Believers are (lower-case) "heirs" by being In Christ, (The Heir of All Things), robed in HIS Righteousness (not our own).
My Dear Mom (RIP) used to say that you can discern a person's true character when "the Will is Read". Jealousy and Envy rear their ugly heads when a "non-heir" sees what the "heir" is getting. Such things have caused kingdoms to fall and wars to rage on. The World is jealous of the Heir and will persecute him relentlessly. A Disciple's life is not always easy.
But we have a Treasure in our Earthen Vessel.
And we didn't get it out of a fish. It is our inheritance.
Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.
For whatever is hidden is meant to be disclosed, and whatever is concealed is meant to be brought out into the open. (Mark 4:22)
God Bless America.
Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Psalm 116
1 I love the Lord, because he has heard
my voice and my supplications.
2 Because he inclined his ear to me,
therefore I will call on him as long as I live.
3 The snares of death encompassed me;
the pangs of Sheol laid hold on me;
I suffered distress and anguish.
4 Then I called on the name of the Lord:
‘O Lord, I pray, save my life!’
5 Gracious is the Lord, and righteous;
our God is merciful.
6 The Lord protects the simple;
when I was brought low, he saved me.
7 Return, O my soul, to your rest,
for the Lord has dealt bountifully with you.
8 For you have delivered my soul from death,
my eyes from tears,
my feet from stumbling.
9 I walk before the Lord
in the land of the living.
10 I kept my faith, even when I said,
‘I am greatly afflicted’;
11 I said in my consternation,
‘Everyone is a liar.’
12 What shall I return to the Lord
for all his bounty to me?
13 I will lift up the cup of salvation
and call on the name of the Lord,
14 I will pay my vows to the Lord
in the presence of all his people.
15 Precious in the sight of the Lord
is the death of his faithful ones.
16 O Lord, I am your servant;
I am your servant, the child of your serving-maid.
You have loosed my bonds.
17 I will offer to you a thanksgiving sacrifice
and call on the name of the Lord.
18 I will pay my vows to the Lord
in the presence of all his people,
19 in the courts of the house of the Lord,
in your midst, O Jerusalem.
Praise the Lord!
