Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Dear Father in Heaven,
How Blessed is Your Name!
You Alone Are Worthy of Praise and Worship,
For You Alone Are The One True God.
Thank You For being Our Peace,
Thank You For Delivering us from all fear.
Thank You For Filling Our Hearts and Minds With Your Comfort And Assurance.
Even though We May Feel Very Small,
And the whole weight of society seems to militate against us.
Thank You for using the Little Things to bring down the huge obstacles.
Thank You for using the foolish things to confound the "wise".

Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.

Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.

This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.

God Bless America.

My first three motorcycles had a device called a Tachometer. Unlike a Speedometer, which tells you how fast the bike is going, the Tachometer tells you how fast the Engine is going. In a Vehicle with Automatic Transmission, which changes your gears for you, a car or motorcycle with Standard Transmission requires YOU to change from one gear to the next. The tachometer tells you when your RPM is too fast and it's time to change the gears. Almost immediately, upon learning to drive a "Standard" people will notice that the Sound of the Engine is enough to tell you when it's time to change gears. The characteristic rise in pitch and volume gives you the exact moment to pull in the clutch and make the change. It's almost like playing a musical instrument. Perhaps that is why I love riding so much. (I submit that it's better to keep your eyes on the road, rather than the Tachometer anyway!)

I've been riding for over fifty years, and only have been studying the Bible for forty, so I probably know more about tachometers than about the Greek New Testament. Imagine my delight when I encountered the Greek word that was the one used in one of the last phrases in Revelation:

20 He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus. (Revelation 22:20 KJV)

The Greek word for "quickly" is ταχύ (Strong's 5035)

Instantly, upon reading that, I had a vision of the tachometers on my motorcycles. The RPM on a motorcycle engine is very fast, in thousands of revolutions per minute. The vision of the Tachometer redlining brought home to me the urgency of Christ's Return. It's time for a LOT of People to "Switch Gears"!

Neither of my Harleys have tachometers. They are very rugged, stripped-down, raw-boned bikes. I think it is expected that, by the time I'm riding THAT kind of Bike, I should know when it's time to shift just by knowing. In fact, I know the sound of my 32-year old motor like I know my own heartbeat.

But what does this have to do with Today's Passage? The Verse comes from Matthew, from the Story of the Magi seeking the New Born King. The only thing they have had to go on so far has been the Star that they followed, leading to Judea. Since they were looking for a king, the best place to visit would be the present ruler of the area, the very nasty and phony King Herod. Herod wasn't even a real Jew, so he surrounded himself with scholars and advisors so he could at least make some appearance of piety. These were the men who were consulted, and they were able to find a Passage from the Prophet Micah that led the Magi to Bethlehem.

In the Passage, Micah predicts that a "Ruler", or "Governor" would be born in Bethlehem. The Magi are sent on their way, leaving a seething Herod, who is determined NOT to lose his hegemony over Judea. (Even though he was a puppet of Rome, he still imagined himself a King).

The word "hegemony" is derived from the Greek word that is used in this Passage meaning "Ruler". The word is ἡγέομαι (Strong's 2233.

It means Ruler, Leader, Authority, and Influencer.

The English word "hegemony" is sometimes used as a political pejorative, such as in descriptions of one country's dominance over a region that would prefer to be independent, but the original meaning was not like that at all. Politicians complain about American Hegemony around the World, but don't seem to have a problem with Chinese Hegemony over the same areas.

Micah softens the possible harshness of "Governor" with the words "Shepherd His People", which is in the same sentence. Just as King David was a Shepherd and a King, the Hegemony of the Messiah would be one of both the "Rod" and the "Staff".

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

For whatever is hidden is meant to be disclosed, and whatever is concealed is meant to be brought out into the open. (Mark 4:22)

God Bless America.

Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Hallelujah and Amen

Psalm 8

To the leader: according to The Gittith. A Psalm of David.

1 O Lord, our Sovereign,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!

You have set your glory above the heavens.
2 Out of the mouths of babes and infants
you have founded a bulwark because of your foes,
to silence the enemy and the avenger.

3 When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars that you have established;
4 what are human beings that you are mindful of them,
mortals* that you care for them?

5 Yet you have made them a little lower than God,*
and crowned them with glory and honour.
6 You have given them dominion over the works of your hands;
you have put all things under their feet,
7 all sheep and oxen,
and also the beasts of the field,
8 the birds of the air, and the fish of the sea,
whatever passes along the paths of the seas.

9 O Lord, our Sovereign,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!
