Regarding OSAS, Hebrews 10:25ff pretty much nails it. There is no doubt that this is addressed to authentic Christians who wish to avoid persecution.
The command is given, “...forsake not the assembly of the saints, as some (habitually) do...”
This establishes that they are authentic Christians.
The topic then incorporates “willful sin” with the statement, “...for if we sin willfully, there is no more sacrifice for sin...” This places an equals sign between those who purposely choose to miss worship and those who will be under condemnation. To put this as a simple declarative sentence, “THE BIBLE SAYS: Willfully and habitually avoiding the worship service will lead to condemnation.” As a generalization, “...knowing to do good, but choosing to continue in it, is sin...” applies to all sorts of actions and thoughts.
It would seem to be useless to defend oneself by claiming to accidentally sin again and again.
OSAS cannot be consistent in the least bit with that passage.
Some appeal to Paul to support “always saved,” when he says “we are SEALED” and “who can separate us from God” but then Paul says he buffets his body lest he, himself, be disqualified. Paul thinks he can lose his salvation; but what does he know?
Some appear to have mastered the art of “straining at gnats and swallowing camels.”
Terrific post. I am continuously called a cultist for basically saying exactly what you just posted (among other things).
Those who think that God’s commandments/laws are only for the unsaved and that THEY have already been judged at the moment of grace, may very well find themselves lost forever.
