First the soldiers drag Jesus before Annas, the former High Priest. After questioning Him, Annas sends Jesus to Caiaphas, the current High Priest, and the Sanhedrin. He asks Jesus if He is indeed the Anointed One, the Son of God. When Jesus replies, "I am", Caiaphas tears his garments and the Council condemns Jesus to death.
Immediately, their soldiers begin mistreating Jesus, mocking Him, spitting on Him, and beating Him.

I am glad you included the striking #14 by the Dutch Golden Era painter Gerrit van Honthorst. A scene lit by a torch, bringing to us the face of Jesus in his silent suffering...

Yes, that one spoke loudly to me, too. The fellow in His face laughing at Jesus will find that his laugh has a termination date.
Do you suppose that one of Jesus’ human reactions on Sunday morning when He awoke and arose was to laugh?
