By abolishing mandatory celibacy, decent, rational priests will be eventually able to rid the clergy of perverted homosexuals. Disbanding the homosexual dominated Jesuit order would also do the Church much good.
Many of the Eastern Catholic Churches, which are in full communion with the Pope, allow married men to be priests.
30 years ago, I asked the priest who did our marriage preparation about this. He said that, with all he does as a priest, it would be hard to give time to a wife and children. It would also be harder on a parish’s finances to pay a priest enough to support them. A Franciscan friend once remarked that it wouldn’t be against Church doctrine to change this, and there have been exceptions, such as Anglican priests who convert. Still I think that it’s wise as a general rule.
