Hate to say it, but you’re right. Tell a few jokes. Preach a little sermon meant to offend no one. Push some mildly woke cause. Call it a day.
But it’s those television “pastors” who are the worst. Too many of them add in the “prosperity gospel” scam.
Quote some bible verse out of context. Then: “Plant your seed (send us money) and you will be rewarded ten-fold!”
Amen brother.....amen.
The infamous Jim Jones treated the Bible similarly in his People’s Temple “Church”. There is a group psychology at work in this traumatic blasphemy.
If everyone is lucky, this jerk just wants money. For Jones, that wasn’t the case.
The guy probably has been metaphorically punting the Bible off the stage for years. Church services have turned into circuses and the message has turned into “if you pray, God will make you a millionaire.”
I didn’t have a big problem with the ‘foot washing’ Superbowl ad; but this is insulting, obnoxious and unbelievably juvenile.
I am all for humor and laughter and there is a time and place for it. This behavior was rebellious and disrespectful in the sanctuary of God. I suspect they can write Ichabod over the door.

I wouldn’t use the designation ‘television pastor’.
That includes people like Billy Graham, Bishop Sheen, Jerry Falwell...
Could you expand on that statement?
Authentic Christianity is “practiced” and even Vince Lombardi spoke of “practice” leading to “excellence” not perfection.
I see deficiencies in churches but I can only “practice” each day to improve on authentically following the God of My Understanding.

In a former life, I had a Muslim friend once tell me that they consider the Holy Bible as scripture and Jesus a great prophet. I wonder what he’d think of a charade like this.
