Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem (2/13/24)[Prayer]

The Names and Titles of God (El, Elohah)

Psalm 139:19

19 Surely thou wilt slay the wicked, O God: depart from me therefore, ye bloody men.

Nehemiah 9:17

17 And refused to obey, neither were mindful of thy wonders that thou didst among them; but hardened their necks, and in their rebellion appointed a captain to return to their bondage: but thou art a God ready to pardon, gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and forsookest them not.

(King James Version)

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Our Father,
Who Art in Heaven,
How Wonderful and Magnificent is Your Most Holy Name!
For You Alone Are Worthy,
You Alone Are Holy,
You Alone Are The Most High!
Omnipotent,
Omniscient,
And Omnipresent,
You Know The End from the Beginning
and the Beginning from the End.
We Bless Your Name and Thank You,
Most Gracious and Hallowed LORD,
For Your Holy Word,
While Sometimes cryptic and disturbing,
Is Always True and Mighty,
and Cuts to the Heart of Things like a Two Edged Sword!

Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.

Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.

This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.

God Bless America.

I spent the whole morning wrestling with the Code and could NOT get Today's Thread to post correctly. I knew that somewhere in the Template, there had to be either a wrong symbol or some kind of hidden glitch that was corrupting the code. Finally, after several tries, I rewrote the entire opening post from scratch, and deleted the old one from my computer. And there it was, my opening post in its familiar format. Why this would glitch out on me after fourteen years and about eight different computers, I will never know.

Today's Old Testament Name of God is "El", or, "Eloah". It is the Singular Form of Yesterday's Name Elohim. Adding the "im" sound to the end of a word is a very common way or forming the plural in Hebrew. The word "El" means "Mighty" and it is a common name for "God" in the Middle East. We even see the Arabic name for God as very similar.

The word "god" is not even Hebrew, and is a generic name for any mighty being. In English, we capitalize "God" when we mean the One True God of Abraham Isaac and Jacob, or The Triune God of Christianity. Contrary to Religious claims, this is not the same "god" worshiped by Islam.

When we say "god" with a lower-case "g", we are referring to the plethora of Pagan "gods" or even a handsome or powerful person. (a "guitar god" or a "regular Greek god!". You know what I mean. Anyway "God" is not God's Name. It is, however, one of His Many Titles.

Observant Jewish People, in order not, by any stretch of the imagination, take the Name of the Lord in vain, will sometimes put a little hyphen where the vowels should be when writing the Name of God. It looks like this: G-d. I am sure you have seen it. While this may seem obsessive to some people, paper can be burned up, shredded, or stained. Pious Jews don't want to see the Name of God profaned in that manner. And, also, the Original Hebrew doesn't even have vowels, so there's that consideration.

This was illustrated to me so graphically when I tried to set up the Thread this morning. Somewhere, deeply embedded in my template, invisible to me, was a tiny iota of code that was messing me up. I had to clean the slate and start over.

It was as if the Thread had to be Born all over again.

Psalm 19

To the leader. A Psalm of David.

1 The heavens are telling the glory of God;
and the firmament* proclaims his handiwork.
2 Day to day pours forth speech,
and night to night declares knowledge.
3 There is no speech, nor are there words;
their voice is not heard;
4 yet their voice* goes out through all the earth,
and their words to the end of the world.

In the heavens* he has set a tent for the sun,
5 which comes out like a bridegroom from his wedding canopy,
and like a strong man runs its course with joy.
6 Its rising is from the end of the heavens,
and its circuit to the end of them;
and nothing is hidden from its heat.

7 The law of the Lord is perfect,
reviving the soul;
the decrees of the Lord are sure,
making wise the simple;
8 the precepts of the Lord are right,
rejoicing the heart;
the commandment of the Lord is clear,
enlightening the eyes;
9 the fear of the Lord is pure,
enduring for ever;
the ordinances of the Lord are true
and righteous altogether.
10 More to be desired are they than gold,
even much fine gold;
sweeter also than honey,
and drippings of the honeycomb.

11 Moreover by them is your servant warned;
in keeping them there is great reward.
12 But who can detect their errors?
Clear me from hidden faults.
13 Keep back your servant also from the insolent;*
do not let them have dominion over me.
Then I shall be blameless,
and innocent of great transgression.

14 Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart
be acceptable to you,
O Lord, my rock and my redeemer.
