The Names and Titles of God (Elohim)
Genesis 1:1

(King James Version)

ML/LTOS Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Our Father Who Art in Heaven,
Hallowed Be Your Name!
For You Alone are Worthy of Praise and Worship,
For You Are Glorious in Majesty!
You Alone Are The One True God.
Perfect in All Your Ways
And yet, You give us permission
To call You "Abba Father"!
How Righteous, Holy, and Just You Are!
Father, forgive us for doubting Your Word,
Forgive us for even entertaining the lies of the enemy of our souls!
Forgive us for thinking we can be "gods"!
And forgive us for not taking responsibility for our actions,
Blaming others for our sin,
And trying to vainly "Cover Up".
Lead us not into temptation,
And deliver us from evil!
Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.
Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.
This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.
God Bless America.

I know what you're thinking: "ML is losing it. She did this Verse YESTERDAY!" Well it's true. I DID do this Verse Yesterday. But we are looking at "The Names and Titles of God", and this Verse, the very first Verse in the Torah, has two names in it. Yesterday we talked about the mysterious Alef-Tav, centered among seven words like the center candle in the Seven-Branch Candelabra that stood in the Tabernacle, later the Temple, and was carried off by Titus in 70AD (and is featured on his Triumphant Arch in Rome). Today's Name is equally deep and meaningful.
Before I went to Israel in 1984, I popped a cassette of Hebrew Phrases in the car stereo and drove around learning the language. I learned very important things like "Please", "Thank You", "You're Welcome", "Yes", "No", and "I Would Like Coffee Please." I carefully mimicked the male Native Speaker on the cassette, and actually got pretty good at it.
What I didn't realize was that, unlike English, Hebrew Verbs have gender that agrees with the noun in the sentence. When I stopped in a cafe in the Old City and proudly asked for Coffee in Hebrew, the waiter politely told me the correct ending for the verb. I had said "Ani rotzEH" instead of "Ani rotzAH." (I want).
Patiently, he explained that I was talking like a MAN. Hoo Boy was I embarrassed! Endings are very important in Hebrew, and, like many languages, the noun and the verb have to agree both in quantity and gender. (I know the word "gender" means something else these days but it used to be just a grammatical term.)
I tell you this long tale of International Embarrassment to segue into Today's Name for Our God. It is the Hebrew Name "Elohim" which is plural. The verb "beresheet" (created), has a singular ending so the noun and verb don't agree. I am not a Hebrew Scholar, nor am I a Native Speaker of the language, but I did take Latin, and such a disagreement between a plural noun and a singular verb would not be tolerated.
Scholars who don't believe in a Triune God say that this is merely the "Royal We", and is an honorific for the One God. (like when Queen Victoria was reported to have said "WE are not amused.") That's plausible. But it is very interesting, to say the least.
Personally, I see it as an interesting clue (along with the "Alef Tav") into the Very Nature of the Creator.
Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

Psalm 44
To the leader. Of the Korahites. A Maskil.
1 We have heard with our ears, O God,
our ancestors have told us,
what deeds you performed in their days,
in the days of old:
2 you with your own hand drove out the nations,
but them you planted;
you afflicted the peoples,
but them you set free;
3 for not by their own sword did they win the land,
nor did their own arm give them victory;
but your right hand, and your arm,
and the light of your countenance,
for you delighted in them.
4 You are my King and my God;
you command* victories for Jacob.
5 Through you we push down our foes;
through your name we tread down our assailants.
6 For not in my bow do I trust,
nor can my sword save me.
7 But you have saved us from our foes,
and have put to confusion those who hate us.
8 In God we have boasted continually,
and we will give thanks to your name for ever.
Selah
9 Yet you have rejected us and abased us,
and have not gone out with our armies.
10 You made us turn back from the foe,
and our enemies have taken spoil for themselves.
11 You have made us like sheep for slaughter,
and have scattered us among the nations.
12 You have sold your people for a trifle,
demanding no high price for them.
13 You have made us the taunt of our neighbours,
the derision and scorn of those around us.
14 You have made us a byword among the nations,
a laughing-stock* among the peoples.
15 All day long my disgrace is before me,
and shame has covered my face
16 at the words of the taunters and revilers,
at the sight of the enemy and the avenger.
17 All this has come upon us,
yet we have not forgotten you,
or been false to your covenant.
18 Our heart has not turned back,
nor have our steps departed from your way,
19 yet you have broken us in the haunt of jackals,
and covered us with deep darkness.
20 If we had forgotten the name of our God,
or spread out our hands to a strange god,
21 would not God discover this?
For he knows the secrets of the heart.
22 Because of you we are being killed all day long,
and accounted as sheep for the slaughter.
23 Rouse yourself! Why do you sleep, O Lord?
Awake, do not cast us off for ever!
24 Why do you hide your face?
Why do you forget our affliction and oppression?
25 For we sink down to the dust;
our bodies cling to the ground.
26 Rise up, come to our help.
Redeem us for the sake of your steadfast love.
