Everything Jewish/Christian tradition has said about marriage and sex for 3500 years is there for the benefit of both society, and the individual.

But this phenomenon has occurred many times in the last 2000 years in Western civilization. It is clearly not unique to our times.
What is even more troubling is the birth rate. All of Western civilization is shaping up to be a demographic bust in population growth -- which is a significant factor in our overall economic growth and well-being.
