Even if a pope were to pronounce heresy in his daily magisterium, i.e. outside of ex-cathedra pronouncements, and outside a formal definitive teaching, he would not lose the papacy.

The case of Honorius I is instructive. He was posthumously anathematized by an Ecumenical Council and a later Pope for doing precisely what this document does...try to play cute with heresy.

I tend to agree with St. Robert Bellarmine on that point, but that’s never been defined, and it raises a whole host of other questions, such as who would make that determination, and how.

Nevertheless, Bishop Schneider is a faithful, brilliant, and courageous man who should be listened to.
