Why Ayaan Hirsi Ali Became a Christian

Ayaan Hirsi Ali is concerned with how the West is dismantling its traditional cultural norms and with what it intends to replace them. Others have said similar things before. Philip Rieff and Sir Roger Scruton are two that come to mind. But the impression both of them leave is that, yes, they think God is a very good idea for grounding a civilized culture, but they are not entirely sure that he exists. What Ali has done is taken the obvious—and indeed necessary—next step: She sees the necessity of a sacred order and is not afraid to say so. It will be interesting to see if those others who have so astutely analyzed the sicknesses unto death that grip the West at the moment will follow her lead.

Ayaan Hirsi Ali, a former Muslim and now a former atheist, recently declared that she has converted to Christianity. This is a cause for great rejoicing.

I've been a fan of Hirsi Ali for a long time and celebrate her conversion to Christianity.

But this article raises questions about her conversion, painting it more as a conversion to "philosophical" or "political" Christianity instead of an actual faith in and commitment to Jesus.

That's a shame. Maybe she will come to know the Person behind the religion.

"Christianity" is an ill-defined term these days, when it was not in the day when it cost you your life. So ia "conversion," which only means professing a religion without possessing the gift of spiritual life by regeneration, of being born in the spiritual realm as a new entity in that dimension, through utterly total convincement that the Incarnate Son of God, Jesus, is alive and will accept you as His servant.

Without this change of mind and commitment to Him, one may realize some earthly benefits, but without eternal life as a consequence.

In reading Ayaan Hirsi Ali's original article, I see a lot of intellectual discussion but no mention from the heart of the Living Jesus as her friend and Savior from a life of depravity. Hmmm . . .

Lewis’ conversion was in steps. First atheism to idealism. Then idealism to theism. Later, theism to Christianity.

There are many intellectuals on the road toward Christ. I pray for many daily.
