I’m a cradle Catholic and have never been told I must follow a declaration made by Pope Boniface VIII in the 14th century or risk ex-communication.

Unam Sanctum is one of thousands of papal bulls issued by Rome over 1000 yrs. It was put forth in November 1302 in response to King Philip IV of France levying a tax on half the income of the French clergy. In fact, even at the time, Pope Boniface’s bull was widely ridiculed and disregarded.

Per Wikipedia, “Boniface's reputation for overweening papal claims made it difficult to accept such an extreme declaration. His assertion over the temporal was seen as hollow and misguided, and it is said that the document was not seen as authoritative because the body of the faithful did not accept it.”

You obviously need some new material. 🤣

LOL....another RC trying to dismiss Unam Sanctam. You're not the first and you probably won't be the last to try and dismiss this dogmatic proclaimation binding on all Roman Catholics.*****

I have no doubt you haven't as RCs run from this like the plague when it's brought up.

By those who didn't like it....kinda like today.

Again....just like today. RCs don't like the sweeping claim of authority the pope made.

Seems to me ya'll are acting like your own little popes picking and choosing which pope you like and which dogmas to follow.

The very thing RCs complain about the Reformation.

Has Unum Sanctum been officially rescinded?

So the opinion of the laity determines whether something is authoritative or not?

Your own personal interpretation of Catholicism. 1.2 billion strong, each one his own pope deciding for himself which version of Catholicism they accept and reject.

And you all complain about Protestantism and the numbers of alleged different interpretation of Scripture?

Unreal......
