The biggest stumbling block to my becoming Catholic (which I seriously considered several years ago) was the elevation of Mary to the Queen of Heaven such that she was the focal point of prayer (as an intercessor) and worship (as the co-Redemptrix).

As a long-time student of the Bible, I was shocked. This is completely un-Biblical.

There is scant mention of Mary in the NT and her elevation to deity is even completely inconsistent with the Old Testament (which is full of prophecies of the coming of Jesus the Messiah).

I would be more likely to trust a neutral 3rd party (assuming they are well informed)

I think you hit the nail on the head with "assuming they are well informed."

How and why would a non-Catholic be well-informed on this issue?

"Did you watch the video or are you just offended by criticism in general?"

This is over a year old. You mad.

but the sinless Jesus and his mother.

Why is his mother only barely mentioned in the New Testament and not mentioned at all in the Old?

How is being offended by a video affected by its age?

“ How and why would a non-Catholic be well-informed on this issue?”

I have never met a non Catholic who is well informed. The only non Catholics who are well informed that I have ever met have converted to Catholicism

People who pretend they are ex Catholic are ill informed on the face of their assumption. They are baptized Catholic and will be judged as Catholics by God on judgement day.

They are in my experience the most hateful anti-Catholic and by definition the most ill informed and misinformed.

My general observation with exceptions is:

1) R puts tradition/church as a higher authority over Gods Word.

2) R tends to lean toward emotion rather than logic.

3) At best there is probably only a remnant in both camps based on God’s word.

Being RC and $4 will get you a cup of coffee

Being P and $4 will get you a cup of coffee and a glass of water.

When we get to heaven, being P or R won’t get you very far.

I agree. Putting anything between oneself and Jesus is a big mistake.

True. But the fact that he is an ex-Catholic does make his opinion more trustworthy than that of a non-Catholic Not necessarily or even likely. Those who are an ex-anything and go to the trouble of making a youtube video explaining why are often trying to justify a decision they subconsciously (or consciously) feel guilty about.

That is a logically valid point. However, everything should be weighed upon its own merits. Watching those of the Protestant branches argue against those of the Catholic and Orthodox branches really begs the question as to provenance and legitimacy.

Funny how how, every Christmas and Easter, the anti-Catholics and bitter ex-Catholics crawl out from under their rocks and start posting the usual uninformed anti-Catholic rubbish. I sense a lot of guilt on the part of the bitter ex-Catholics and an impulse by anti-Catholics to go after the more uninformed Catholics during the time of year when they might be most inclined to embrace the Faith.

Everything these anti-Catholics throw out there has been answered and refuted over and over again. It is pretty funny that someone might imagine that in her 2000+ year history, the Catholic Church has never answered these charges. They only work on the ignorant and lazy.

“Not necessarily or even likely. Those who are an ex-anything and go to the trouble of making a youtube video explaining why are often trying to justify a decision they subconsciously (or consciously) feel guilty about. “

With myself not even have seen the video, yet. your refutation of the video, just because the presenter is a formar Catholic, is just a bunch of psychology psycho babble, with no basis in anything other than your irrational explanation.

There is nothing automatically “guilty” going on when someone comes to a new revelation about their own understanding of something, particularly when they can go through the process of the facts for the change.

Maybe all you are trying to do is prejudge the author, and more directly prejudge what they present.

Maybe you resent being challenged. Maybe the “guilt” is your own projection.

Amazing how ex Catholics hate the church but ex Protestants are happy about their experiences in their former churches.
