Day 4 of the 21 Day Challenge - Psalm 1
Bible Hub ^ | Various | God

1How blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, Nor stand in the path of sinners, Nor sit in the seat of scoffers!

2But his delight is in the law of the LORD, And in His law he meditates day and night.

3He will be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water, Which yields its fruit in its season And its leaf does not wither; And in whatever he does, he prospers.

4The wicked are not so, But they are like chaff which the wind drives away.

5Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, Nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.

6For the LORD knows the way of the righteous, But the way of the wicked will perish.

Psalm 1:1-6 NASB

The language of this translation certainly diminishes the majesty of the Crown-authorized centuries-old version, and by inference that of the Spirit in Whose Hebrew the psalm was written, sorry to say.

Psalm 1 (AV):

1Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly,
nor standeth in the way of the sinners,
nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.

2But his delight is in the law of the LORD;
and in His law doth he meditate day and night.

3And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water,
that bringeth forth his fruit in his season;
his leaf also shall not wither;
and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

4The ungodly are not so:
but are like the chaff
which the wind driveth away.

5Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment,
nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.

6For the LORD knoweth the way of the righteous:
but the way of the ungodly shall perish.

===============

The poet David wrote this as song, of a nature carefully translated by scholars to be not only accurate in meaning, but with magnificent words lending themselves to a cadence fitted to commend the memorization of them for liturgical recitation in unison, which became the intent of congregational worship. That cannot be done where the consort is to a dozen of different translations, all at the same time, leading to a confusing babble.

This is not a thread for debate. You want to discuss the translation start your own thread.
