Isaiah: 5: A Simple, Sobering Explanation Of Our Sick Society

In Isaiah’s day, the prophet speaks for God to His people … people to whom He had shown great mercy, blessing, and favor. Somewhere they had made a turn, best described in a few verses. It didn’t take many words from God and His prophet to identify what had happened.

Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes and clever in their own sight. (Isaiah 5:21)

A fall away from God always begins with pride. We think we know better and are wiser than God, and this pride leads to a further disastrous decision.

For they have rejected the law of the Lord of hosts and despised the word of the Holy One of Israel. (Isaiah 5:24b)

Isaiah: 5: A Simple, Sobering Explanation Of Our Sick Society

Wouldn't this also apply to, say, modern-day CHINA?

How about the Incan civilization? The Mayans? The Aztecs?

Except that they never embraced Christianity.

I think God was directing this comment to a lot of Freepers.

Any counter-examples?

I.e., examples of societies that DIDN'T abandon God, and thus continued?

Maybe to you, too?

So you're saying that you have no adequate response to my legitimate query?

Am looking for examples of societies that adhered to God and thus thrived and continued / didn't decline and vanish.

Conversely, I see plenty examples of societies that thrived for centuries, and then disintegrated - although not adhering. Am trying to establish a cause-and-effect relationship here: Observable causes, with observable effects.

Then we can set up a generally-applicable rule.

Otherwise, such assertions are about as helpful as the Alaskan Eskimo who claims that his magic amulet wards off Bengali tigers.

The sickness of a society has to be calculated against an objective standard.

You can't say that China or any other country is sick unless you can say, "Here's the standard of a healthy society" and by that standard, China is sick.

Don't be coy! You're still failing to cite examples.

Show me a healthy society! (Presumably, that would be a society that never fell.) Or is your "observation:" A society is healthy - until it isn't anymore? (Very helpful observation!)

Don't obfuscate.

A society's health or lack thereof can only be determined by comparing it to a standard of health.

If you cannot define "health" as it pertains to society, your question is inane.

Societal health is relative, isn't it?

Define "healthy society" and then perhaps someone can show you one that meets your criteria.

An interesting back-and-forth on this thread. So your challenge is "show me." May one assume you 1) have one "healthy" one against which to measure, or conversely 2) think no society is "healthy?"

I go with the model of flux, wherein societies rise up and fall, and renew to go through similar cycles.

That infamous Third Reich fell rather quickly, and I wager the EU will crumble eventually having exceeded its original goals. Certainly the old European colonialist empires fell, as the USSR simply collapsed. I can imagine similar fate awaiting many societies. Cycles cycle, after all.

You’re either on the wrong thread or you’ve got AI churches on the brain.

I see you’re taken by the AI movement - mark my words - there will be AI churches and people will worship them...

On what do you base that stupid statement?

I'm an observer, not a believer. I actually think AI is going to be threat to humanity.

On the other hand, it is coming whether you like it or not.

BTW, this thread is not about AI. For some strange reason, you have interjected it.

Any man or woman, any family, any nation who, in their pride, reject God’s Word will fall into a dramatically deluded mind and depraved behavior.

Yup. America is there.
