Man who was raised in Warren Jeffs' polygamous Mormon CULT with 28 SIBLINGS details his desperate escape from the sect - where women were treated like 'slaves' and members were forced into sex as minors

A man has revealed how he escaped a polygamous Mormon cult before its former leader was sentenced to life behind bars for child sex offences.

Ben, based in Utah, appeared on a recent episode of the Cults to Consciousness podcast to share what it was like growing up in the Fundamentalist Latter Day Saints Church (FLDS) with two moms, who were sisters, and 28 siblings.

FLDS was a break away group which branched off from the original Mormon church when the mainstream religion ceased practicing polygamy.

Ben laid bare the strict rules that were imposed by former self-appointed leader Warren Jeffs who had 'control of everything' that followers did including when they could 'have sex' and 'make babies.'

Ben began by explaining to host Shelise Ann Sola what it was like to live in the isolated community.

'Growing up there you didn't think you were different than anybody else.

'We thought we were of a higher power if you want to say it that way. We were the chosen ones - god's chosen children...

'People like me that left the religion were damned and the things of Satan were going to be upon us.

'You had that fear if you left god would strike you down with the bolt of lightning type of deal.

'You are in fear of god instead of having a loving god...

'If you really got down to the nuts and bolts of it, if you didn't do what they said then satan was going to be upon you and you were going to be damned to hell.'

Polygamy was the main driving force behind the group - with men needing to have at least three wives in order to get to the highest level of heaven.

May Warren Jeffs suffer greatly.

Generally, polygamy cults are fine with young males running away and have no problem with it. The leaders want to have all the women with fewer males to want wives.

In 2008, I drove through Colorado City, Ariz. which was dominated by that cult, and I decided to visit a local market. The experience was surreal. Most of the customers at the market were twentysomething girls, but they were wearing nineteenth-century outfits featuring long dresses, and one girl was wearing a dress made from gingham fabric. It was as though I had traveled through a time warp.

I only saw a couple of men, and they were in their 40s and wearing western shirts.

Driving through the town, I noticed that the houses were quite large—most likely, to accommodate polygamous families.

Polygamy was the main driving force behind the group

Just like Muslims, they plan on our reproducing the competition.

I’ve heard that within Mormonism that they purposefully drive young males out for that purpose.

That tells me that it’s a Satanic cult.

I for one hope he never leaves the Big House alive.

This is OLD news. The article may be recent, but the FLDS cult has been known for this for over 20 years.

Weren’t there any more recent examples you could find for Christian bashing that you had to resurrect an issue that long known and addressed at the time?

I think the point is to let people know that this is still going on. And I would have a hard time calling these people Christians- they are abusing others in the name of Jesus.

The city where FLDS prophet Warren Jeffs lives is called Palestine.

Btw he is still their prophet and leader. The crimes he still commits should be prosecuted. He is harassing the lives of other people through willing accomplices who need to be locked up.

It also asks members to send letters with photos and information about themselves and their families.

We don’t want any ugly people!

God told me “no ugly girls”

Interesting read: Jon Krakauer, Under the Banner of Heaven. He did great research on the history and inner workings of the Mormon Church.

I know they are not Christians but the unbelieving world thinks they are, so it does besmirch the name of Christ to the unbelieving world.

Mormons aren't "Christians" in any way, shape, or form. So why would you consider someone's posting an article on Mormon polygamy practices to be "Christian bashing"?

You're yelping when you're not hurt. Very telling.

You are confusing Mormons with the church. Salvation is a private decision, not a corporate one. The LDS church is not Trinitarian therefore not Christian. Individual Mormons can be Christians.

There is a cult like that running a store and cafe in the Tourist section of Plymouth MA.

Not Mormon, but some other sect that uses child labor and forces all the women and girls to wear prairie dresses and cover their hair.

It’s the best-looking property on the strip, but covers a cultic and unchristian agenda.
