Can’t recall offhand another painting which so drew me into the scene.
I like Tissot at 37. Imagine being on the verge of being stoned to death and you look around and only you and Christ are there.
Also like the one’s with the writing in the dust depicted. Can’t help but wonder what was written.
Many speculate, but I don't recall a satisfactory suggestion.
It is rare that the Bible seems to leave us wondering.

Interesting. Given the situation, it would be reasonable to infer Jesus would write the unmerciful stone-holders’ names.
