At least 52 people have died and more than 80 have been injured after a suspected suicide bomb exploded near a mosque at a gathering celebrating the birthday of Islam's Prophet Muhammad in south-west Pakistan.
The bombing occurred in Mastung, a district in Balochistan province, according to government administrator Atta Ullah.
Injured people were rushed to nearby hospitals and some are in a critical condition.
There are also local reports of a separate blast that ripped through a mosque located on the premises of a police station in Hangu, a district in the northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, wounding seven people some 350 miles from the first blast.
Local reports said at least two have been killed in the attack.
The mud-brick mosque collapsed because of the impact of the blast and rescuers have desperately removed the debris to pull out trapped worshippers from the rubble, said Shah Raz Khan, a local police officer.
Police say it was not immediately clear what caused the blast. No one claimed responsibility, and it was unclear what caused the blast when around 40 people, the most part police officers, were praying at the mosque.
A senior police officer, Mohammad Nawaz, was among the dead at the Mastung blast, Mr Ullah said.
Officers are investigating to determine whether the bombing was a suicide attack.
Muslims in Pakistan and around the world celebrate the birthday of Islam's prophet by holding public gatherings. The birth anniversary, known as Mawlid an-Nabi, involves day-long celebrations and free meals are given out to people.
Just a few days before the bombing authorities asked police to remain on maximum alert as militants could target rallies for the event.
