WTH did Trump’s election have to do with the decline of evangalism? Seems a bit labored and tenuous.

The point being made by the author is that Evangelical Elite bend the knee to Progressive Leftism, and as a result have distanced themselves from faithful conservative Christians. Therefore,Trump ---whose supporters are faithful conservative Christians---triggered attacks against Trump and his supporters by the 'elite.'

In his conclusion, the author believes the time of 'elite Evangelicals' is over due to what he believes is going to occur, a revival of faithful Christianity led by the very Christians rejected by the 'elite.'

I think the idea was that Obergefell and then the Trump election moved Evangelicals from being viewed as neutral to openly disfavored position by the secular culture.
