As a Christian, I have no problem with an old earth in Genesis.
It appears clear to me that God was using the term ‘Day’ in Genisis as a metaphor for a phase rather than a 24 hr period where the earth makes a 360deg revolution.
In fact, as I recall, the earth doesn’t even make a revolution in its journey around the sun until day two or three. Consequently, the term ‘day’ must be a metaphor
More Genesis metaphors? (Not simply “day”, but also parts of what we refer to as a day)?:
1:5 “...and there was evening and morning one day.”
1:8 “...and the evening and morning were the second day.”
1:13: “And the evening and the morning were the third day.”
1:19: “And the evening and morning were the fourth day.”
1:23: “And the evening and morning were the fifth day.”
1:31: “And the evening and morning were the sixth day.”
The Bible was written by God. We measure time from our perspective. But time is not a constant. In his book, he has a chart that by shows the six days of creation side by side with a scriptural description and a ‘scientific’ description of events. Truly amazing.
"Genesis and the Big Bang" is a great read.
except for that pesky “evening and morning” detail inserted at the turn of each and every new day...
then again maybe the almighty might have been spicing it up a bit with literary license and hyperbole....
moses must have editorialized... perhaps there were not really ten commandments either... just spit balling here.
maybe we don’t really sin and don’t need a savior either.
of course if the savior beleived the books of moses as factual history... then he really could not be who people say he is either.
I don’t consider it to be virtuous as a jew or christian to treat the books of God’s law as “fake news”.
