I think Trump, as a Republican standard-bearer, may have changed a lot of this calculus (most notably among Mormons, but other groups as well).

I have virtually no contact with Mormons. I’m curious what impact you think Trump would have had on their political leanings.

I live and grew up among Mormons (and love them dearly), and the nation could easily witness the Mormon church’s disgust w/ Trump on account of his desire to close the porous southern border. The church seems to value mass migration (whether it’s because they can make converts, or they like the cheap labor, not sure). So the church hierarchy let it be known among the faithful that Trump had besmirched the immigrants with the words ‘murderers and rapists’.
In any event, the church is very top-down (i.e. ‘when the hierarchy has spoken, the thinking has been done’). Then you witnessed how Jeff Flake and Mitt Romney became mortal enemies of Trump, as did the Mormon wing of the AZ Republican Party — and our cause has been severly wounded by it.
Maybe that will help you understand why I surmise that, if the poll were taken today, since the Trump era, the Mormon calculus might look quite different than it did in 2014.
