An antisemitic rant by a member of the San Diego County Human Relations Commission has drawn sharp criticism from the local Jewish Communiy.
Commissioner Khaliq Raufi said during a meeting on July 18 that he had read “a few verses” in the Old Testament book of Deuteronomy — he called it “the book of Jews” — and concluded that “it states go kill Palestinians.” He claimed this is currently taught in synagogues.
“Are you serious?” exclaimed someone in attendance during the meeting.
Deuteronomy recounts the Jews wandering in the desert after fleeing Egypt and their ultimate entry into the promised land of Israel millennia ago.
Raufi’s comments were reported as a “hate incident” to California’s new CA vs. Hate hotline.
Three Jewish organizations issued a statement Friday saying Raufi’s comments were hateful and appalling.
“We are appalled that the commissioner’s statement was made in a body established ‘to promote positive human relations, respect and the integrity of every individual regardless of gender, religion, culture, ethnicity, sexual orientation, age or citizenship status,'” said the statement issued by Fabienne Perlov, regional director of Anti-Defamation League; Sara E. Brown, regional director of the American Jewish Committee; and Heidi Gantwerk, president and CEO of the Jewish Federation of San Diego.
Raufi is an Afghan refugee who arrived in the United States in 1992. He was appointed by Supervisor Joel Anderson. A spokesperson in the supervisor’s office said Anderson was studying video of the incident.
The 31-member commission is intended to promote positive human relations, respect, and the integrity of every individual regardless of gender, religion, culture, ethnicity, sexual orientation, age, or citizenship status.
Re: Commissioner’s Comments at County Human Relations Commission on July 18, 2023 From Fabienne Perlov, Regional Director, Anti-Defamation League, San Diego and Imperial County; Sara E. There is no room for hate in San Diego, especially on the Leon L. Williams San Diego County Human Relations Commission.
The Anti-Defamation League of San Diego and Imperial County, American Jewish Committee, and Jewish Federation of San Diego strongly condemn the antisemitic and hateful statement made by a commissioner at the July 18, 2023 meeting.
Hateful statements toward any group are never acceptable. Silence is not an option.
We are appalled that the commissioner’s statement was made in a body established “to promote positive human relations, respect and the integrity of every individual regardless of gender, religion, culture, ethnicity, sexual orientation, age or citizenship status.”
This statement is representative of the historical and false accusation of modern blood libel/antisemitic tropes, which have led to horrific violence, destruction, persecution, and massacres of Jewish people and communities.
These remarks are part of a growing manifestation of hatred and bias against the Jewish community in the United States, California and San Diego County. ADL’s Audit of Antisemitic Incidents saw a 36% increase in incidents in 2022 – the highest level ever recorded. And, AJC’s State of Antisemitism in America report found nine in 10 Jews and the general public surveyed believe antisemitism is a problem in the U.S. and affects society as a whole.
We call on the Human Relations Commission to take immediate action to address the commissioner’s abhorrent statement by undergoing commission-wide training, education and dialogue to meet its mission as an inclusive and bridge-building entity.
We can and must do better as a county and community."
He didn’t even bother to look up, but just quoted what he saw on Islamic hate sources
“and concluded that “it states go kill Palestinians.” He claimed this is currently taught in synagogues.”
Definition of PROJECTION.
and concluded that “it states go kill Palestinians.”
Might be referring to
Deuteronomy 20:16-18
16 But of the cities of these people, which the Lord thy God doth give thee for an inheritance, thou shalt save alive nothing that breatheth:
17 But thou shalt utterly destroy them; namely, the Hittites, and the Amorites, the Canaanites, and the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites; as the Lord thy God hath commanded thee:
18 That they teach you not to do after all their abominations, which they have done unto their gods; so should ye sin against the Lord your God.
They were all idolaters. What does the Koran say to do with idolaters?
San Diego has become a MARXIST shithole ever since Red Diaper Baby Filner was elected mayor not so many years ago.
Both his parents were Communist Party members/recruiters in Pennsylvania as documented by Congress. Should be more information on them at www.keywiki.org, under the search name Filner.
Amalek, I guess.
He believes Palestinians are Amalek.
That is an observation but not what he stated.
BTW:
1. In actual Judaism, amalek is more of an (evil) idea than just ethnicity.
2. The physical war on Amalek is NOT applied in today’s teachings.
Good point.
Unfortunately.
