Funny how you Hammock Christians miss polygamy practiced in the Bible. Your Victorian era versions you carry in your hip pockets must have those parts cut out.

Yeah, it's right there from the beginning. God created Adam, and Eve, and Sally, and Kendra, and Tiffany, and Joan, and ...

Hmmm, maybe that's not what it says.

Just because something is "in the Bible" doesn't make it right. Plenty of folks in the Bible do wrong things. Even good folks in the Bible sometimes do wrong things.

Yes, the preferred reading of we “hammock Christians” is the Bible while lying in our hammocks. We are quite aware that some of the early patriarchs and Kings practiced polygamy but may I suggest you climb into your hammock for a little in depth reading of your Bible so that you will learn while polygamy was permitted by God it was NEVER His perfect will and in fact there passages in the Bible confirming this.

For example:

Genesis 2:21-24:

“So the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and while he slept took one of his ribs and closed up its place with flesh. And the rib that the Lord God had taken from the man he made into a woman and brought her to the man. Then the man said, “This at last is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.” Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.”

1 Corinthians 7:2:

“But because of the temptation to sexual immorality, each man should have his own wife and each woman her own husband.”

The Bible has a lot more to say on the subject than these 2 verses by the way.

Can't say as I've been called a "hammock Christian" before! Not sure what you mean by that but if you really think monogamy isn't taught in the Bible, you ought to read it a bit more. This might help: Does the Bible Permit Polygamy?.

It never fails to amaze me how people condemn a man committed to multiple women at the same time while celebrating men like Hugh Hefner and Charlie Sheen who openly lived with multiple women at the same time.

And men who have a wife and a mistress? That’s okay. But if he calls the second woman a wife then someone will call the cops.

Myself, I don’t care about committed and non-abusive polygamy when most mono couples can’t figure out how to commit!
