So why do Christians venerate a Cross? We don't *venerate* the cross.
Honestly, Catholics are so conditioned to exalt and venerate people and objects that they cannot wrap their minds around the fact that most normal people don't.

The Roman Catholic Church relates to all parishioners as idiot children. A Monsignor is a venerated Priest. The Roman Catholic Church forbade Catholics from joining "secret societies" so they created the Knights of Columbus to give them something to make them feel venerated among their peers.
