Ohio Fifth-Graders Forced to Create Native American Pagan Idols in Class, Write About Their ‘Powers’

Public school students were instructed to create a kachina doll representing spirits worshiped by Native Americans, which one boy’s parents say violates their Messianic Jewish beliefs.

LEXINGTON, Ohio (LifeSiteNews) — Parents of an Ohio fifth-grader say their son’s First Amendment rights were violated when he was coerced during class into making a pagan idol, that is, the likeness of a spirit worshiped by Native Americans.

Students at one of Lexington Local Schools’ elementary institutions were instructed in class to make a Kachina doll, used by the Hopi Indians as a “sacred object” to teach children about spirits believed to have “special powers,” such as curing the sick, as the class worksheet explains.

“What type of luck does your doll bring?” says the worksheet, which instructs the students to create the doll using the outline of a mask and then to “write about your Kachina doll’s powers.”

Benjamin and Amie Mutti practice the Messianic Jewish faith, according to which creating idols is a grave violation of God’s Commandments.

A website on Native American culture explains that “Kachina dolls are made in the image of various kachina spirits which the Hopi worship” and that Hopi children “are taught to regard the kachinas with a deep religious awe.”

“Clearly, they are not toys,” noted Amie Mutti to the Lexington School Board.

“In our faith tradition, the Scriptures say not to make any graven image or likeness of anything in heaven above or earth below. Not only are we not to make idols, our faith tradition says we are not to bring idols into our homes. After the students completed their project, they were told by the teacher to take their dolls home,” said Mutti.

They are grooming the children into paganism. Slowly introducing, and then a little more on and on, same method: grooming.

“...to teach children about spirits...”

church and state ok if it’s paganism.

Much as I am outraged by public school antics, I don’t see that here.
Nearest analogy I can think of off hand is learning Greek mythology. We did presentations about the gods and their powers. IIRC, we survived just fine.

I think some parents need to be more concerned about their children being indotrinated about sex and pride than a one time lesson about the hopi

If my child was in that school I would encourage them to envision an idol whose powers were to spot and eat Marxists/Communists.

Did you read the article? This wasn’t simply an art project, but an effort to treat the images as real beings with real powers.

It depends on how it’s presented. I was raised learning about Indian folklore (TV westerns being all the rage then) and about mythology of various lands. I’d be suspicious with the crop of modern teachers though!

Yeah I did.
Different perspective is all. It could have been written another way.

Or it could be just as nefarious as it sounds.

But we studied stuff like comparative religion and did the same types of things without the dolls. Immersive learning and all that.

I always thought the fear in these matter was that if the kids realized the Hopi religion was superstitious nonsense, they could realize the rest are too.

As I understand the Bible, it's only a violation if you believe it's a real god. If you create it for artistic purposes, but don't worship it, then it's not a violation.

When I was in Catholic school, I was heavily into Greek mythology. So for art class, I created plaster images of my favorite Greek gods. I didn't think they were real gods. I just liked the stories.

public schools are at best a waste of your child’s time. At worst they are woke-pedo indoctrination camps.
