Gay Priest Dreams of Sacramental Marriage for Same-Sex Couples

The hierarchy remains silent

NEW YORK (ChurchMilitant.com) - A so-called LGBTQ Catholic resource is touting a self-proclaimed gay priest's recent speech in which he expresses his dream for the Church to offer the sacrament of marriage to same-sex couples.

The website Outreach recently published an adapted version of Fr. Bryan Massingale's speech, which he delivered on April 21 at the Ignatian Q conference held at Fordham University's Church of St. Paul the Apostle in New York. The speech, titled "I Dream of a Catholic Church That Celebrates and Embraces LGBTQ People," took place at a "gathering of LGBTQ students from Jesuit colleges and universities."

James Martin, S.J., the founder of Outreach, promoted the piece on Twitter, introducing Fr. Bryan Massingale as a "Black, gay priest and theologian" who "dreams of a church that celebrates and embraces LGBTQ people."

Martin's pro-sodomy stance is well-known; Church Militant has documented it here, for example. The dissident Jesuit apparently has the support of the pope, his Jesuit superiors and numerous bishops.

Chalk another one up to the Catholic Church being evil.

Yeah, Church Militant showed me how evil the Catholic Church rulers are. I left the Church behind.

No earthly power...not the Pope nor the magisterium nor any one else...can alter the doctrine of the Catholic faith one iota. Period. End of story.

It is not the Pope’s Church, it is not the “Magisterium’s” Church (as you refer to it), it is Christ’s Church. And Christ’s Church doesn’t change.

Plenty of people “dreamed” of something different than what the Church taught. They didn’t get anywhere, and neither will this idiocy.

So what, if anything, does the church stand for?!

Understand this very well. Just because the Pope in a personal capacity stands for something, doesn't mean "the Church" stands for it.

During the Monothelite controversy, Pope Honorius played cute with Sergius and the heretics, and he personally favored a muddled definition that was tolerant of both orthodoxy and Monothelitism. For that he was posthumously anathemized as a heretic by a later ecumenical council with Pope Agatho's signature.

A former Pope was anathematized as a heretic. Let that sink in.

Now let this sink in: the Honorius example was front and center on the minds of the Fathers of Vatican I when they defined Papal infallibility.

Francis can believe what he likes personally. The Holy Spirit doesn't protect us from his bad personal opinions any more than it protected us from Honorius's. Theoretically, a future Pope and Ecumenical Council could anathematize Francis. Rather, we are protected from him *committing* the Church to those errors via a heretical dogmatic definition.

To answer your question...the Church stands for what it has always stood for and will always stand for.

Correct. They will fail because it’s impossible to do otherwise. Apostates have tried to change the doctrine since the church fathers.

Are these alphabet people Christians or is this act of marriage plainly a mocking gesture towards Christianity?

Gay priest = ABOMINATION.
same-sex marriage = ABOMINATION
Sacraments to active gays =sin against themselves AND the church.

Whats this story about again?

Organizations that dont/wont exclude members that dont follow the rules are not very organized and highly hypocritical.

That’s ridiculous.

Jesus had the traitor Judas.

We can expect no less.

You’re throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

Homosexual priests. Pachamama and idol worship. worship of other indigenous “gods” all condoned and promoted by the current heirarchy. Not to mention indulgences, marioltry, purgatory and other extra biblical long standing heresies. The Roman Church is a hot mess and desperately need another Reformation.

Reformation so it can go along with the "current thing"? This is Malarkey, and I apologize for your ignorance of Catholic doctrine, which is common, and much of that is due to the dereliction of duty within the Catholic Church itself.

An honest assessment is that malignant powers and principalities attack all Christians. Always. Where there is Christ, there will be those who oppose Him. Homosexual church leaders, apostasy, and idolatry are not specific to the Catholic Church. How many denominations are there now? There are 45,000 worldwide, and everyone thinks everyone else is wrong. This is telling and is what Satan wants.

While there may be denominational differences there are some things that are clearly scripturally wrong. Homosexuality celebrated with “marriage” and gay clergy, and idol worship (pachamama and indigenous idols). Any church that tolerates these is clearly apostate. i would add others to the list such as female clergy but would probably get less wide agreement on that.

I think ever since Vatican II there is an allowance for sincere dissent. Of course one can also dismiss all of Vatican II if so led by the spirit, by its own definition.
