Bishop Bernard Fellay consecrated the Immaculata Church in St Marys, Kansas, on May 3.
With over 1,500 seats, it will be the largest Catholic church in Kansas and the largest PiusX church in the world. It is 40 metres high and over 6,000 square metres.
The style is an approximation of a Roman basilica, somehow neo-Victorian. During the homily (below), Bishop Fellay mentioned that Curia Archbishop Guido Pozzo once approached him and said: “Francis asked me: Where do they have so much money from?”
Fellay replied, “All the buildings that we buy, that we build, they do not come from so much money. They come from the faithful who have the faith.”
The Immaculata Church costs $42M. The cathedral in Los Angeles, arguably the ugliest cathedral in the world, cost $187M.

Fellay’s anecdote speaks volumes for multiple reasons.
(1) Bergoglio is very money-oriented. His modus operandi has been to seize control of wealthy orders (e.g., Knights of Malta).
(2) Bergoglio, as a pedestrian Marxist, smells capitalist conspiracies behind everything. He sees the SSPX growing, and his gut reaction is, “Who are the capitalist fat cats who are funding them? And why?” His various mouthpieces such as Spadaro SJ have suggested that he views relatively conservative brand of Catholicism in the U.S. as essentially the byproduct of capitalism.
My grandmother lived in St. Mary’s and I still have cousins in the area. There is a “normal” Catholic parish in town as well. I think the SSPX community came in about the late 80s? They were thought to be kinda weird but harmless. They had a little college, but I don’t know if that is still there.
Why were they thought to be “weird”? Is because the men wore suits and the women covered their heads?
The money comes from the same source as their vocations, Jorge; Divine Providence.
Exactly, Bergoglio only expects income from non-catholic entities such as the U.N., the mandatory taxes of German Catholics, or Biden's contribution of millions of dollars to the USSCB to transport illegals into the U.S.
Bergoglio's dwindling "Peter's Pence" collection is a direct reflection of where devout Catholics are putting their time, labor, and monetary contributions.
The cathedral in Los Angeles, arguably the ugliest cathedral in the world, cost $187M.This?

Perhaps so. I don’t recall seeing anybody in suits on the street the last couple times I was there (97 and 2004). But I do definitely recall seeing a female student in a restaurant in longer skirt or dress, with long sleeves, despite August temperatures.
Guess I need to get back there and take another look, next time there is a reunion.
Some other Kansans dress weird too, though, as there are old order Mennonite communities around also. Interesting place.
How do you think Our Blessed Mother dressed?
Was she weird?
I assume Mary dressed like her contemporaries.
I think the local residents were looking at Pius X types like, what if they are weird cult types, like those LDS communities? Are the women oppressed? I think they decided the new folks were not cultists, but just a bit overly rule bound.
I have no idea what the current view of the “townies” is on this. (My appellation not theirs.)
You have to remember that interest in Pre Vatican II observance was at perhaps its lowest ebb back when the SSPX first arrived in Saint Mary’s, perceived as schismatics. Supporters of the Latin Rite are I think better known now, since many Catholic diocese have had some Masses available, after Pope Benedict’s “thaw” on that.
But women know better now, right?
Some women dress with appropriate dignity and modesty. Some definitely don’t. Some overdo it; they could shed the burka. It’s not worth belaboring. I had a tiny bit to add to the discussion so I tossed it in. I have no further insight or information to offer.
That's an insult to Catholic women. You should be ashamed of yourself.
Yeah, right. You just "tossed" in the insult that traditional Catholics appeared "weird" to you.
And speaking of women in contemporary clothing, here's the Blessed Mother, as depicted inside the ugly, Taj Mahoney in Los Angeles:
So traditional Catholics are abnormal?
I don’t know any Catholics who wear burkas. In hindsight I’m not sure where I was going with that. Sorry to offend you.
In the eyes of the world, Catholics are weird. We believe stuff that is hard to believe and do stuff other people don’t understand. Trad Catholics are even weirder. More detailed, more intense. It’s the True Faith, but it’s not easy for many to wrap their heads around. Personally, I embrace the “weird”. I embrace being the oddball (pro-life, anti-divorce, Real Presence, rosary, confession, spiritual warfare, etc.) that my left-wing sister says I am. Catholic weirdness is what it is. It’s what we got when we said, like Peter, “Lord, where else would we go? You have the words of everlasting life.” It can be true and weird at the same time. Own it. Celebrate it. It’s Good News.
