Christians can give the enemy and demons a foothold in their lives through unforgiveness and sin in their lives.

Forgiving others and repenting of sin is a great way to close the door to any opportunity those would give the enemy to try to influence us.

I do not believe a Christian can be possessed but that they can be oppressed by the lies the enemy speaks to them or through attacks on them through others.

Staying in the word and in prayer is critical.

Now there’s one I consider having a demon and who is not a Christian.

Hebrews Chapter 4 refutes the body of your comment.

As for the rest of it, I could not care any less. The only thing that concerns me is churches that spend a lot of time talking about satan and demons, without a lot of time talking about God’s grace and power.

Hebrews Chapter 4 refutes the body of your comment.

Where in those 16 verses do you see even a hint at the topic of demon possession? Forgive me if my insinuation is wrong. But it's one thing to make a non-sensical reach in Biblical analysis, it's quiteanother to just invent things out of cloth.

L, TOWM, I’ll join EliRoom8 is challenging you about you answer which is not an argument at all.

This is a debate forum and a sound discussion or debate involves arguments that include rationale and support for your argument as well as rationale that refutes your opponent (me in this case).

Get an actual argument with reason and support for what you say and if you can do so, try again.

(BTW, Hebrews 4 is about the Promised Land of rest for the believer - victory over the demonic enemy - pretty much the opposite of your statement.)

I never heard of him before.   (The flatulent friar!)

Maybe he wouldn't have so many stinking demons in there if he switched to a more biblical kind of beans.

(He probably cleared out the whole church too, in addition to the devil.)

A true Christian has the Holy Spirit indwelling him. Because of this, demon cannot possess a Christian. They can’t occupy the same space.

Demons can influence Christians by tempting to do wrong and similar.

I’ve seen videos of him with barely controlled while being interviewed unexpectedly by reporters.

He manifests. Aside from the fact that his theology and doctrine are way off base.

Yes they can tempt but they cannot live in a true Christian.

My apologies — I did not even speak on the demonic possession other than to disclaim an unhealthy concern with it. I did see a statement used to support the idea that a “Christian can’t have anything they want”, which was:

“For instance, even if a Christian runs away from Jesus, I believe because of Jesus’ perfect sacrifice which makes a Christian righteous forever and God standing by his New Covenant by which he does not remember our sins and iniquities, they will still go to heaven.” (Quoting your post 16 on this thread Jim. This is “Once Saved Always Saved” theology which has its own problems...)

This is where I made two mistakes.
1) I was not clear in my post that I couldn’t care less about christian demon possession being real or not. Hayford seems to have also not cared, but I don’t truly know or truly care. I did care about the Once Saved Always Saved thing.
2) Wrong address in in Hebrews. The VERSES start at 4, but the chapter is 6. As follows...

Heb 6:4 It is impossible for those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, who have shared in the Holy Spirit, 5 who have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the coming age 6 and who have fallen[c] away, to be brought back to repentance. To their loss they are crucifying the Son of God all over again and subjecting him to public disgrace. 7 Land that drinks in the rain often falling on it and that produces a crop useful to those for whom it is farmed receives the blessing of God. 8 But land that produces thorns and thistles is worthless and is in danger of being cursed. In the end it will be burned.

Now -— two final thoughts...

A) When a controversial topic is brought up as an example of why another’s take on a controversial topic is whacked, expect confusion. Probably would have been cleaner to reference a passage in Corinthians or I Peter to support the idea that one can be saved and be demon possessed; Acts or Ephesians to disclaim that possibility. Makes for an interesting study and the youth group will like it.

B) I appreciate the reminder of why I stay out of the ghetto that the religious forum on this site is. No new information ever and a whole lot of people here that remind me of why church attendance is declining.

Don’t waste any of your earthly time replying guys — I am out of here for a year or two until I need another reminder.

I truly am sorry to see you depart because your reply was quite well-reasoned and welcome. In fact it will motivate me to dig into the Word further to understand your points.

When we are dealing remotely, it's very easy to jump to the wrong conclusions and misconstrue what is going on. Such was the case with the Hebrews 4 comment and reaction.

Wrong. Becoming a Christian doesn’t mean you win a prize or get special treatment. You still have to carry your cross. That includes suffering.

Look at the lives of the saints. They suffered demonic oppression, even possession.
