Pressuring a Woman to Have an Abortion Could Become Criminal Offense in Russia

Patriarchal representative also calls for abortion inducing drugs to be banned.

The Patriarchal Commission on Family, Motherhood and Childhood Protection of the Russian Orthodox Church (ROC) proposes to introduce criminal penalties for inducing or forcing a woman to perform an abortion in clinics. Priest Fyodor Lukyanov, representing the Church, addressed a crowd of pediatricians at a recent medical forum.

"It is necessary to provide for punishment for inducing abortion,” he said. He also promoted toughening the law against non-doctors inducing an abortion by increasing the maximum amount of fines from the current 80 thousand rubles to 150 thousand rubles, and the jail term from two to five years.

Complaining that currently the concept of a illegal or criminal abortion is not well defined in Russian law, Father Fyodor proposed,

The legal concept of' criminal abortion ' should be developed with the participation of representatives of state bodies, with the involvement of experts from religious organizations, and with reference to the scientific works of modern researchers in the field of biology, medicine, and philology.

He explains that criminal abortion should be understood as the performance of operations for artificial termination of pregnancy by people without appropriate medical education, outside medical institutions, methods and means not approved by the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, as well as in cases of non-compliance with the terms of abortion for medical or social reasons.

He added that it is well known that this sort of abortion occurs in private medical clinics, at least 70% of which provided no pre-procedural counseling and advising of the women about the negative effects of abortion.

There need to be legal consequences for women who get abortions.

Putin’s Russia is on the right side of many things. Restrictions on abortion, the importance of religion in society, etc. Russia could have joined Poland and Hungary as examples of what Western civilization should be like.

But no. Putin had to overreact to NATO provocations, and cross a sovereign border. He is now killing innocents and breaking things. Pity. He could have been a beacon of hope - a good example - instead of the war criminal that he is.

Maybe that's why we hear (and see) the constant actions for "regime change" in Russia coming from Washington DC

This whole thing drives me crazy. As I noted earlier, Putin could have had been a great influence for good. But then he threw it all away be invading Ukraine.

But wait. As you noted, the United States keeps calling for regime change in Russia. That’s none of our business! It’s no different than if Russia or China aggressively agitated for regime change in the United States because we invaded Iraq.

Washington was right. Avoid foreign entanglements.

America has become way too Godless to ever expect that here.

Too bad we didn’t listen to him, although World War 2 was definitely justified!

The Soviet Union, under Lenin, became the first country to have abortion available, on request, often for no cost. On October 1920 the Bolsheviks made abortion legal within the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic with their “Decree on Women’s Healthcare”.

Under Stalin, in 1936, the Central Executive Committee of the Soviet Union made abortion illegal again, stemming largely from concerns about population growth as well as concerns for the medical dangers of abortion.

Given what NATO/US/CIA did in Ukraine prior to 2022, going back to 2014, and before that, Putin did what he had to do.

I hesitate to speak for George Washington. But I think he would have understood our response to Pearl Harbor and to 9/11.

But I think he would have been sickened by our involvement in Korea, Vietnam, and Iraq. None of those wars threatened our core national interests in the least.

“Pressuring a Woman to Have an Abortion Could Become Criminal Offense in Russia”

This will REALLY anger the Ukraine Cheerleaders - the idea of a government NOT wanting dead babies.

Do you think George Washington approved of France funding the American Revolution? I don’t think it was in their Core National Interest.

“Given what NATO/US/CIA did in Ukraine prior to 2022, going back to 2014, and before that, Putin did what he had to do.”

I think many here are simply TOO LAZY to understand what was going on there, including what was looking to be a genocide on the order of Europe of 80 years ago, also committed by a government of hard-core Nazis.

...either they’re too lazy, or they prefer not to admit what they know.

> Putin did what he had to do <

That is not an empty argument. NATO was expanding eastward. And NATO was treating Russia as if it were some minor country, one whose concerns did not matter at all.

Well, Russia’s concerns do matter! Russia was invaded from the west not once but three times (by Napoleon, by Kaiser Wilhelm II, and then by Hitler). Each time the Russian people suffered terribly. Putin had a duty to prevent this from happening again.

But Putin wildly overreacted - much as Bush II wildly overreacted by invading Iraq. So many innocents died. So Putin and Bush are both war criminals in my book. Of course, your mileage may vary.
