The UK is dead.
England has never had freedom of speech. There is a place in London called Speaker’s Corner where people are allowed to speak freely, but the speaker must be standing on a platform, technically not on English soil, in order to speak freely. There is no “1st Amendment” in England.

Given that the UK and also the US were infested with Communists (even in the Manhattan Project), I doubt that stopping Stalin and his Communists was a driving force for the Allies in WWII.
The Soviet Union was a concern at the time that might wage war to take over Europe. The Allied Powers didn’t believe a free Europe could hold off a determined Soviet Union, so they used fascism to hold off communism. Why do you think every country in Europe practices some form of fascism, where private companies and government to cooperate to achieve agreed upon ends?
Canada is also a fascist nation. They just aren’t as extreme, yet, as Nazi Germany was in terms of enforcing government dictums upon the people.
