A committee looking into historic child sex abuse in the Portuguese Catholic Church says 512 alleged victims have come forward, but a report by the expert panel warned that the true number is likely higher than 4,000
The final report includes a separate — and confidential — annex of all the names of church members reported to the committee that is being sent to the Portuguese Bishops Conference and to the police.

I’m with you that the Catholics should ease the restriction on celibacy. But in that regard, perhaps us Protestants ought to at least encourage celibacy if it can be done. The Apostle Paul himself wrote it’s best to abstain if you can, but marry if you can’t. Neither Catholics nor Protestants ask our leaders to do it the way Paul taught it.

And the LORD God said: ‘It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a help meet for him.’
A lone man has an awful time with temptation (not that being married solves that all of the time), and must deal with it somehow spiritually. The Bible says if he can’t control the urges to go and be married rahter than end up in sin. Man is susceptible to the fire within which is very powerful, and God k ew this and encouraged marriage to those who are susceptible to falling into the sin of lust

but if they cannot exercise self-control they should marry, for it is better to marry than to be on fire.
