I've been studying the "turn the other cheek" question for a few months now. I'm not a long-time Bible scholar, however I've been discussing the issue with some knowledgeable and intelligent Christians, as well as doing some historical reading. I would not want to endanger my eternal soul, so it's important to get this right.

I've about concluded that not only is it not necessary to turn the other cheek when dealing with tyranny, but it's almost certain that going on the offensive (even pre-emptively) is an option.

For anyone interested in the details of my research and reasoning, I would be happy to send a Freep mail. :)

I've always read that as a way to deal with peoples petty insults. People are full of petty insults. If we 'killed' everyone that throws an insult our way, the world would be a lonely place. Tyrants and others that openly wish US harm, kill 'em. That would make the world a better place.
