Don’t fall for Satan’s ploy. Can’t you see this is a campaign to stomp out ALL religion? If even the most outrageous offenses are normalized (and let’s be clear: Anti-sodomy laws are almost ALWAYS written to prevent male rape), then even the simplest sacrifice done for your own spiritual benefit seems stupid by comparison. I suck at abstaining, so don’t let me be a hypocrite, but abstinence should be done out of love for Christ, not fear of Hell.
He’s not saying their acts aren’t sinful just that criminalization (persecution) is immoral.

Meh...when I was a practicing Catholic, the RCC was nowhere near stating this. I mean priests in my church were falling all over themselves to emphasize that you were only going to Hell if YOU WANTED TO. More clearly, if you just didn’t want to live in God’s presence due to the things you’d have to forsake. Though we occasionally (rarely) had the priest who spoke about sin, much more frequently we had the social activist priest to rambled on about how we needed to care for the marginalized, oppressed, and outcast. They did this so much that the congregation started to lose sight of converting souls instead of just satisfying material needs.
