The internet, for all its faults and defects and opportunities for sin, has been a gift from God for faithful Catholics. If it had happened 30 years earlier, the internet might have stopped Novus Ordo-ism in its tracks as information like Ottaviani’s intervention certainly would have leaked. But the faithful were isolated, divided and influenced by diocesan-controlled propaganda. Ironically, Roche is more or less right. The internet is a “force multiplier.” The internet allows a Mike Matt or a Taylor Marshall or a Fr. John Zuhlsdorf to supply critical information to the faithful, including seminarians. Roche (and his boss Bergoglio) pine for a world when the “shut up and obey” model still worked.
