Good Morning, Dan. :-)
Mary-Lou! I woke up, you woke up, even Lazarus woke up. As my dad used to bellow, RISE AND SHINE!
Many artists have complicated the mis-en-scene. Leave it to Rubens to dramatize and uncomplicate it.
All great paintings!
#1 Fichefet, solid Belgian Impressionist painter, watercolorist.
#2, Bloch, the great Danish artist whose admiration for Rembrandt became the driving force in his artistic development. To this day, his paintings of the Life and Death of Christ are studied by young artists all over the world. Brilliant colors, depth, composition...eternal Bloch.
#8 Tanner - his religious paintings earned him international recognition.
#10 Bertin. He was popular in France in the 17th c. for his religious and allegorical themes.
#15 Gallego. Major Castillian artist of the 15th c. His paintings show individuality, inventive compositions, dramatic intensity which were not seen in Spanish art of that period. In his work we can see the influence by Rogier van der Weyden and other Flemish masters.
The Rubens, at #30, does indeed single itself out, as you assert. Action fairly explodes out of it—which, after all, is the point of the entire incident: Jesus acts, and now Laz does, too.
Yesterday, I began preparing the individual artists’ pages for the artists’ survey to be published at the end of the series, and I particularly enjoyed reading Bloch’s biography.
Good Morning Dan, and good morning to each gallery visitor.
So many fine choices;
#21 Douffet
#26 Van Gogh
#29 Barroeta
#30 Rubens
As we remember how the Holy Spirit called each of us out of death...
Thank You Dan!
