Fr. James Martin Defends Pete Buttigieg’s Same-Sex ‘Marriage’ as Legal, Legitimate

The dissident, pro-LGBT priest was responding to a Catholic League tweet that called a marriage other than between one man and one woman 'legal fiction.'

(LifeSiteNews) — Notoriously dissident Jesuit priest Father James Martin claimed in online comments that a man in a same-sex union is “married.”

Writing on Twitter about Democrat Pete Buttigieg, the former mayor of South Bend, Indiana, and former presidential candidate who is now the U.S. Secretary of Transportation and in a same-sex union, Martin said, “Pete Buttigieg is married.”

Buttigieg, an Anglican who was baptized Catholic and attended Catholic schools, came out as “gay” in 2015 and entered into a same-sex “marriage” in the Anglican Church in 2018. His “married” status has come under fire in recent online comments, with the Jesuit priest rushing to his defense.

Martin’s statement came in reply to a tweet by the Catholic League in which it called such a marriage a “legal fiction,” writing, “It is true that Pete Buttigieg is legally married, but that is a legal fiction.”

In clarification, the Jesuit priest doubled down, claiming that those refuse to acknowledge same-sex “marriage” as something recognized by the state, and in this case, by the man’s church, “ignore reality.”

Martin wrote, “Surprised this got so much attention. Like it or not, Pete Buttigieg is legally married. You may disagree with same-sex marriage (or not). But @SecretaryPete is married in the eyes of the state, and his church, as much as anyone else is. To claim otherwise is to ignore reality.”

Bergoglio's pet Jesuit seems to recognize civil, and a false church's, laws above God's laws.

Maybe he also recognizes the Church of Satan and it's support for abortion, which is also recognized in most western countries.

The Catholic Church is the last remaining Christian Church that does not recognize nor approve same sex marriage, nor does it condone blessing them. Unlike the Church of England after the Queen’s death just today said it approves them. Father James Martin is a heretic. He does not represent the Catholic faith. We have a bad Pope, Cardinals, and Bishops that do not firmly denounce these people and that is just as bad. Jesus has not left His Church and through history we have bad and sinful leaders, but the faithful continue to proclaim the true Gospel of Jesus Christ.

No. That is what is wrong with Jesuits, including Jesuit popes.

Maybe Fr. Martin would like to make his case before Christ. Don’t think Fr. Martin would be able to get Christ to retract his teachings. Fr. Martin would have to be one hell of a debater.

Millions of former Catholics view the Church of Fr. James Martin as Illegitimate (and they’re never coming back, and their offspring will never darken the doorway of a church).

Millions of former Catholics view the Pope who allows this as Illegitimate (and they’re never coming back, and their offspring will never darken the doorway of a church).

This priest is no priest. You can love the sinner but hate the sin. God says not to judge lest you be judged, but I can’t help think the church is dying before our eyes and the Catholic Church leaders are leading the way into Hell.

The Orthodox churches don’t condone gay marriage either.
