Yuck. The opening lines of Rerum Novarum (Leo XIII’s Labour Encyclical), provide a clear antidote that is more authoritative than most of the stuff cited. THey run to the effect that since shortly after the Fall, man has had a hankering to give excessive weight to new things (Rerum Novarum).

A further antidote is an old Oratorian proverb: “All change is bad, even change for the better” that has morphed in English Oratorian culture to “All change is bad, especially change for the better.”
