JESUS HEALS A CRIPPLED WOMAN ON THE SABBATH
|
֎ Featuring 22 Paintings, 2 Photographs and 2 Reliefs ֎
L U K E Chapter 13 On a Sabbath Jesus was teaching in one of the synagogues, and a woman was there who had been crippled by a spirit for eighteen years. She was bent over and could not straighten up at all. When Jesus saw her, he called her forward and said to her, “Woman, you are set free from your infirmity.” Then he put his hands on her, and immediately she straightened up and praised God. Indignant because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath, the synagogue ruler said to the people, “There are six days for work. So come and be healed on those days, not on the Sabbath.” The Lord answered him, “You hypocrites! Doesn’t each of you on the Sabbath untie his ox or donkey from the stall and lead it out to give it water? Then should not this woman, a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan has kept bound for eighteen long years, be set free on the Sabbath day from what bound her?” When he said this, all his opponents were humiliated, but THE PEOPLE WERE DELIGHTED WITH ALL THE WONDERFUL THINGS HE WAS DOING.

Happy Sunday to you and All.
#7 by Tissot
Beautiful mid-4th c. carving which is located in the Vatican Museums, at #8
#22, I really like this Melanie Pike painting, a Canadian inspirational artist. The blurred crowd magnifies the supernatural miracle of the woman’s healing. Very touching.

Good Morning Dan, and joyful Sunday to all.
What a wonderful lesson from God’s Word; that His Holy Spirit would call forward those who trust in Him, and straighten us from our stooped and broken lives.
Thank You Dan!

Interesting sidelight -- Judaism post AD 70 takes what is also the Christian position on this. OK to break the Sabbath to save a life.
Another interesting sidelight -- The only Pharisee whose writings have survived to the preset day is the apostle Paul. OK he wasn't one any more when he wrote his letters.

Hiya, Mary-Lou!
Say, is that first painting on your J-thread, showing the crowd being overawed by Jesus, a Tissot? It’s new to me.

Getting into the Vatican Museums means being in very long lines, often under the sun or rain, for hours. I tried 4 times and had to leave.

OK to break the Sabbath to save a lifeAnd where was the Mosaic exemption to work as the Sabbath police during the Sabbath--wasn't that "working", too? If not, why not?
The only Pharisee whose writings have survived to the preset day is the apostle Paul.
I suppose one could say that Paul had graduated from Phariseeism.

Do you know its title, or can you share what you used to find it?
I want to use it, too--I'll need it in a couple of days (finishing the Last Supper now).

Yes. There is still an Oil Press on the grounds of Gethsemane. It’s made of VERY HEAVY rocks.
