A federal court ruled the University of Maryland St. Joseph Medical Center broke the law by refusing to remove the uterus of a trans-identified patient due to the religious beliefs of the Institution, which is committed to Catholic principles while also being part of the public medical system.
U.S. District Court Judge Deborah K. Chasanow ruled Friday that the hospital violated the Affordable Care Act and discriminated against plaintiff Jesse Hammons, a biological female diagnosed with gender dysphoria, by refusing to conduct a planned hysterectomy (removal of the womb) because it doesn't conduct those procedures to address gender dysphoria.
The ruling acknowledged that St. Joseph's policy is guided by the National Catholic Bioethics Center's interpretation of Ethical and Religious Directives, which prohibits such procedures because they do not "conform to the true good of the human person, who is a body-soul union unalterably created male or female."
Chasanow, a Clinton appointee, issued a summary judgment stating that the facility may not assert a defense based on the Religious Freedom Restoration Act because it receives federal funds.

At some point, people need to move past fear based compliance and simply refuse. Do the whole MLK thing. Just simple refuse to obey the depraved old robed tyrant.

I assume this will be reversed on appeal, and hope that the UMSJMC can find some competent attorneys to argue the case correctly. They should use Medicine, not relogion as their defense. Since when are hysterectomies a proven treatment for gender dysphoria? If a disturbed person showed up at the hospital claiming their leg was a poisonous snake and demanding it be cut off, would the hospital be in legal jeopary for not cutting off the “snake”? Performing surgeries to mollify a mentally ill person’s subjective desires should be a crime — not refusing to do so.
That’s ridiculous. Doctors have to do whatever a person wants regardless of health risks?
You can bet if they go through with this that one day they will get sued by someone who changes their mind.
Isn’t this non-essential cosmetic surgery? Screw the “judgey”.
Seeing how there are opposite appellate judgements, this is probably headed for the Supremes.

Better is to give them the price up front.

Very sick judge. Ten years from now, this woman is going to sue everyone involved in validating her mental illness. I hope the judge is alive to be a part of it.
