Exodus 20:4-6 You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. You shall not bow down to them or serve them, for I the Lord your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and the fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing steadfast love to thousands of those who love me and keep my commandments.
Bowing down before graven images is blowing down to graven images.
Congratulations. You’ve just indicated you are member of Daniel’s club.
WHO are the graven images, MOMMY?
Exodus.....the JEWS were worshipping GRAVEN images....right? That’s why they had to spend 40 years in the desert!
You do realize that the reference to graven images and bowing down in Exodus 20 is part of the First Commandment prohibition against idolatry and not a separate commandment (yes, I know that Protestants incorrectly count it as a separate commandment) against graven images per se. God himself commanded that graven images were to be placed above the arc. He also commanded the creation of the graven bronze serpent. Jesus did not condemn anyone when presented a coin with the image of Caesar. Thus, outside of the context of idolatry—and Catholics do not worship Mary as a god—there is no violation of the commandment.
