“There is a generation that curseth their father, and doth not bless their mother. There is a generation that are pure in their own eyes, and yet is not washed from their filthiness.” (Proverbs 30:11-12).
Now, here we get into prophecy. That word, “generation” shows up here 4 times, and you will find in Matthew 24, that Jesus says in verse 34, “This generation shall not pass till all these things be fulfilled.” There's going to be a specific generation in which the prophecy the Second Coming, and the Tribulation, will take place. And many of the things here in Proverbs 30 about this generation will apply to the Second Coming. In light of verse 11, Paul writes:
“This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy” (II Timothy 3:1-2).
In the last days children will be disobedient to their parents, and that is a prophetic reference to the days we are living in. Have you ever seen it like this? I mean, you look back 40 or 50 years from now, I realize some kids were disobedient back then, but that wasn't the rule. That was the exception; today, it's a rule that kids are disobedient.
Verse 12 says, “There is a generation that are pure in their own eyes, and yet is not washed from their filthiness.”
This generation we are living in are self-righteous, heady, high-minded, lovers of themselves more than lovers of God. That is a denial of the principles of God that man is a sinner. You see today even the religious people today deny that they are sinners. I mean, every man is okay, there is a spark of divinity in every man and all that business. All we need to do is to pull ourselves up with our own bootstraps and get educated.
“There is a generation that are pure in their own eyes, and yet is not washed from their filthiness.” Well, there is only one way to be washed, and that is washed in the blood of Jesus Christ. Self-righteousness is said to be one of the marks of the last days.
The Bible says in Second Timothy 3:5 that they'll have “a form of godliness but deny the power thereof.” The power of Godliness is to be washed in the blood. You'll never be godly until you're washed from your filthiness.
